In his early Mexican wrestling days, Konnan made a name for himself in the lucha libre scene. He honed his skills in both CMLL and AAA, and became one of the biggest stars in Mexican wrestling. With his unique blend of high-flying acrobatics and charismatic persona, Konnan captivated audiences and gained a massive following. He held multiple championships in AAA and eventually started his own promotion Promo Azteca.

In 1996, Konnan began to wrestle for WCW where he stayed until the company closed on March 19 2001. During his tenure, he was a founding member of the influential nWo Wolf pack faction and played a pivotal role in the group's rise to dominance. Known for his brash attitude and streetwise persona, Konnan brought an edgy and urban flair to WCW programming. He held various titles in WCW, including the United States Championship and the World Television Championship.

Following WCW's closure in 2001, Konnan embarked on a journey through various wrestling promotions. In 2003, he began regularly appearing for Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling, where he continued to showcase his in-ring abilities and larger-than-life personality. As a member of the 3Live Kru, alongside Ron Killings (R-Truth) and B.G. James (Road Dogg), Konnan brought his charisma and unique style to the group. The team won the NWA tag team championships on 2 separate occasions.

After the demise of the 3Live Kru, Konnan formed the Latin American Exchange, with APolo and Homicide. LAX feuded with the James Gang at first and then underwent a slight change in direction, going from gang members to militannts.Konnan, now leading the team of Homicide and Hernandez, played a crucial role in establishing LAX as a dominant force. The group, known for their anti-American sentiments, engaged in intense rivalries with various American TNA wrestlers. Their controversial storyline reached a peak when they threatened to burn the American flag live on television, creating significant buzz and generating heated reactions from the audience. While Homicide and Hernandez achieved multiple TNA World Tag Team Championship reigns, Konnan transitioned into a managerial role as the "minister of propaganda" for LAX. He utilized his mic skills and presence to further amplify the faction's message and impact. However, Konnan's tenure with TNA came to an end after Slammiversary 2007, marking the conclusion of his run with the promotion.

Konnan resurfaced in Lucha Underground as the mentor of Prince Puma and Dario Cueto's connection to the Mexican Lucha Libre scene.
