The Invisible Woman, also known as Susan Storm Richards, is a Marvel comic superhero. She is a member of the Fantastic Four, a crew aboard an experimental space flight that was given special powers when it was bombarded by cosmic rays. After the crew learned of their new special abilities, they formed the Fantastic Four to serve mankind and protect the world. The Invisible Woman’s key ability is the power to manipulate light waves, as you may have guessed, giving her the ability to make herself appear invisible.

Growing UpSue Storm grew up with her younger brother Jonathan in Long Island, New York. When Sue was younger, her parents were in a car wreck. Her mother died in the accident. Despite being a surgeon, her father, Franklin Storm, was unable to use his professional talent to save his wife. This led to a fight with alcoholism for Franklin, which caused him to spiral into financial ruin. During his struggles, Franklin had a run-in with a loan shark that he ended up killing in self-defense. This landed him in jail, forcing Sue and her younger brother to move in with relatives.

Sue graduated high school as the award-winning captain of her Girl’s Varsity Swim Team, them moved to California to pursue her college career as an actress. Here she ran into an old friend from the past, Reed Richards, whom she began a relationship with. At the time, Reed Richards was working on a ship designed for interstellar travel. After losing funding for his project, Reed didn’t want all his hard work to go to waste. He made an unscheduled test flight, along with three other crew, which led to the inevitable run in with the cosmic radiation that would create the Fantastic Four.

Powers and Special AbilitiesWhat special ability could the Invisible Woman possibly have? The power to become invisible? Of course! She does this by bending all wavelengths of light around her body without causing any visible distortion. She can also bend the wavelengths around other objects and people, making them too invisible from everyone else.

However, her most important power in combat is the ability to generate very powerful force fields. These force fields can repel oncoming solid objects of enormous size, even if they are traveling at great speeds. They have also been known to stop some variations of energy attacks. She can generate these force fields over a distance of hundreds of feet. Sue learned how to shape her force fields into various shapes, such as columns, cones, or discs that she could use as offensive weapons by turning them into projectiles. She can also create force fields inside of objects that will gradually expand, causing the object to explode!
