It was at State University in Hegeman, New York that Reed Richards met the two most important people in his life, Benjamin Grimm and Victor Van Doom. Ben became his closest friend while Victor became his greatest enemy.

Reed would speak of his desire to build a rocket which Ben would say that he would fly. Years later, Reed took Ben up on his offer. The goverment however, denied Richards permission to go. Unwilling to backdown, Reed took Ben, his future wife Susan Storm and her younger brother Johnny and stole his own rocket.

Unfortunalty, the four where bombarded by cosmic radiation, forcing them to crash land on Earth. When they emerged, the four found they had gained superpowers. Reed's body had became malible and ultraflexible.

His friend Ben, however, was much less fortunate. Devoting himself to finding a cure for Ben's transformation, Reed Richards became team leader of the Fantastic Four. The ties between the four strenghted through their battles against the likes of Doctor Doom, Reed's College rival who had used his knowledge to take over the small country of Latveria, The Mole Man, Mad Thinker and the Skrulls.

Even though the Four often fight amongst themselves, their is one undominable truth that makes them nearly unbeatable when they stand together. The Fantastic Four are not just a team, they are a family.
