Hello Fellow Realmers! Today I present you with the Davey Blaze Customs - 1st Appearance version of a Classic Hulk Villain....THE MISSING LINK!!!!! (First Appearance Incredible Hulk vol. 1, Issue #105, 1968). This figure was a BIG challenge (No Pun Intended). He Stands at 10 Inches Tall. His Head is a 100% Original Davey Blaze Customs Sculpt. Most of his Body including his Abdomen, pectorals, neck, upper arms and legs and his Loin Cloth were sculpted. He also GLOWS IN THE DARK!!! This is to emulate the characters "Radioactive Glow".

His Headsculpt was based on researching actual Neanderthal Skulls, so the anatomy of the head really started with the skull. I wanted it to be authentic and realistic but still be true to the trademark exaggeratedly large eyes that the character has in the comics.

He was designed with the goal of being Comic Book height accurate with my Custom Incredible Hulk, which is about an inch taller than the Marvel Select Incredible Hulk.

His body was constructed using parts from a Classic Covers Creech Action Figure and a Marvel Select Red Hulk. I used my own secret methods for constructing a super-strong body. This fellow is about as heavy duty and very solid. Precautions taken to avoid paint rub.

More photos are posted at my Official Website.

I hope you all like the Davey Blaze Customs version of.....
THE MISSING LINK!!!!!!!

I commissioned this custom figure. And loosecollector is right. This one does deserve to be Most Talked About! And Davey Blaze deserves to be a most talked about custom artist. His approach and direction have taken a constant wave of topping himself. I thought that his Toad was a masterpiece. But his Missing Link might be even more polished and creative. He has reached the point where if there is a base figure, it is no longer recognizable. It is a big heavy, fully re-sculpted movable statue. Every part of the figure seems like an original and unique impression. The amount of improvised invention here is really beyond what we usually see. I kept writing to him saying,"creepier, more twisted and grotesque!! I want horror in the face and knuckles dragging on the ground!!" But what he produced was nothing like what I expected. I was seeing a kind of Berni Wrightson/Jim Starlin muscled statue. But Davey created a wholey original version of this old-timey Hulk villain. He took each version of the comic drawings, somehow combined them and added his own original ideas to create and completely new vision. Just look at the pictures. Each of the joints also move in a unique way. He stands and moves unlike any other figure. And yet, he still satisfies wanting a custom figure that makes you think of the original character AND something new and different. I wish I could explain how well sculpted this figure really is. The head shape, the ears and teeth and wrinkles around the eyes are all finely detailed. That expression on his face!!!,...which Davey Blaze is the master of. His characters always have an attitude in their expression. You can almost imagine what they are thinking/experiencing. I mean, look at that open mouthed yarl, the flaring nostrils, that one half closed eye,... The shape of that head is outstanding!! The upper body has series of uniquely sculpted muscle groups that really convey a caveman-like stance. The upper torso is completely original. From the bent over, hunched back muscles to his twisted chest and stomach muscles. Each muscle group is highly detailed and built up right up to the neck that all looks like it fits together perfectly. He really does look like his knuckles might drag on the ground. Then there are his crouched muscled legs and lower torso that move independently of the upper part. The furry underwear is also finely detailed. It must have taken forever to sculpt all of that and get it to look like a fur loin cloth. The overall effect is just outstanding!! If you ever thought you wanted a new interpretation of a classic older character,.. this is it! I'm not sure I can even describe the glowing paint effect. Wish I could get a picture of it. He said that he was experimenting with glowing paints for radioactive characters.

I've been wanting him to make grotesqueries, twisted monsterous characters, just to see what he will do with them. He is obviously so talented at making oddball body shapes. But I would also like to see him do some classically ideal "Superman" type characters, like Captain Marvell, just to see what expression would end up on their faces.

I have to say thank you for making an old 1970s Hulk reading fan a happy owner of a Missing Link. Way back when, he was considered a major Hulk nemesis for a short time. He was just one of those characters that you always wanted, but never thought you would see a figure of. You really topped yourself with this one!

Davey, your Missing Link just might be your absolute masterpiece. Putting Davey Blaze characters next to a regular Marvel Legends toy makes you see how lacking in emotion and attitude most figures are. He has been quietly creating little masterpieces. Real works of art that take custom figure modeling in a very creative direction. If Davey Blaze can top this one, I can't wait to see it.

Brother, I love all your work and this is by far my favorite.
The body posture/shape, color and wonderful headsculpt sells the entire look.
He deserves a "Most Talked About Custom" spot.

Thank you SO much L.C.!!! You know I LOVE your work, so that is a tremendous compliment coming from you!!! I'm really glad you feel that way. This figure was an experiment in a lot of ways, and was hard to tell until the end if the elements would work out how I had imagined. I'm really glad you and our fellow realmers are diggin it! He was quite a challenge!

Thank you again, so much for sharing your thoughts on this. He was a real labor of Love, and slowly seeing him come to Life was a very special process. I must admit that it would have been very difficult to part with this one had it not been that he was going to the right home. A place where he would be appreciated, almost like "part of the family", so to speak. I know in your care this figure will be truly loved.

Thanks big time, Supa!!! I'm glad you think so! The skin tone was a tough call because sometimes he is colored kind of pale, sometimes kind of pink and other times really red. I really wanted the paints to be true to his look inside his first appearance comic, but also have elements of the other coloring jobs incorporated to kind of give his skin an irradiated, irritated look. Glad you like it!!!

Davey Blaze this is unbelievable! This is one remarkable, outstanding Hulk villain that you made! As a Hulk comics collector I really like it when customizers make Hulk enemies. I'd like this custom for myself!

Haha thanks, Big time! I owe a lot of the inspiration to the person who commissioned it. He has great appreciation of characters and when he mentioned this one as a possible Custom request, I jumped at the idea. It's something I'd thought about, but it sometimes takes someone else really wanting it to give you that extra umf to say "this is the character, this is the one". Should that desire of yours to have one ever become overwhelming, I did make a casting of the Head and could possibly make another someday, haha
