Shadow Mirage SX-100Shadow (Kenner) - Vehicles

SuperNinjaMonkeyUp for review here is a pretty spiffy vehicle from the Shadow toy line by Kenner. The Shadow Mirage SX-100. I was one of few fans of the Shadow movie so I was kind of excited about the toy line coming out. Well the figures were quite a let down as some of you already know, but the vehicles on the other were rather impressive and often overlooked. Just the overall look and design of the car just oozes cool. There are a few features such as your typical firing missles which work alright, and the figure which it was desinged for fits just right in the driver seat, even though the figures themselves were quite awkward. Put this on a shelf with the cool Thunder Cab and you will have yourself quite a nice display. Pretty durable as well as I have moved a couple of times and this got banged...[

High Hide with Nick Van OwenJurassic Park - Lost World (Kenner) - Vehicle / Figure Packs

SuperNinjaMonkeyJurassic Park was one of those toy lines that no one seemed to notice while it was in stores, but years later became one of the hottest toy lines around. The Lost World continued the tradition from the first film with a whole new line of figures and vehicles. For review here is the High Hide from the mini vehicle assortment. These mini rigs or vehicles were the highlight of the Lost World series. They had many cool features for example the classic grappling hook and rope, and motorized back pack to lift the figure to safety. Not sure why grappling hooks were seen less and less, they were my favorite toy feature back in the day. The design and sculpt of the toy is awesome, and makes a sweet display with a forest type background. And hey you get a free Nick Van Owen for your trouble. These...[

Night Hunter Robin vs Evil Entrapment Poison IvyBatman & Robin (Kenner) - 2-Packs

SuperNinjaMonkeyYes we all know Batman & Robin was one of the worst movies ever made, but the toy line on the other hand was quite good. Up for review here is one of the few 2-packs from the series, Robin vs. Poison Ivy. I really dug these 2-packs cause they featured chrome style sculpting which is a nice change from the standard plastic. This made a very nice display piece, especially with the black and red card back. The articulation was nothing to cheer about but in this case these 2-packs were better left on the card anyways. Huge Batman fans should not miss the chance of adding this to their collections, at least for the unique factor....[

TrimaranWaterworld (Kenner) - Vehicles

SuperNinjaMonkeyAnother toy line that gets a little too much criticism is Waterworld, produced by Kenner toys in 1995. While I agree that most of the coloring and accessories are lame the overall sculpt and design of the figures was great. But here we are talking about the enormous sized ship from the film the Trimaran. I picked this up on clearance at KB several years ago for the low price of $9.99. After holding it for awhile I got anxious to bust this open and boy was it worth it. The detail, size and design of this vehicle is some of Kenner's best work to come out of the 90s. With net mesh floor just like in the film, and a huge mast which extends over 12 inches. I was totally impressed with this and it really makes this small toy line stand out. If you ever consider starting a WW collection, begin...[

DarwinSeaquest (Playmates) - Basic Series

SuperNinjaMonkeyAhh yes the classic SeaQuest DSV toy line. It amazed me that this B grade TV series managed to earn themselves a toy line in the first place. This must have been the era of where toy companies were latching onto any license possible. Well aside from all that, this here is Darwin, the toy based on the Dolphin friend of Lucas from the show. While I can see Playmates idea was in the right place, it just didn't work out. Darwin just comes as is with some lame accessories. Hey Playmates, it's a freakin fish, think it would have been better suited with a deluxe playset like a fish tank or something for it to swim in. Now that would make a cool display with the other figures nearby. But no, they just wanted to cut corners and save money, thus the result was weak and effortless. Not a bad sculpt...[

Azeem (Scimitar)Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves (Kenner) - Basic Series

SuperNinjaMonkeyRemolds and kit bashes are what consited of the very cool Robin Hood action figure line in 1991. The figure for review here is Azeem played by actor Morgan Freeman. He comes with cloth robes and tunic and his signature sword which he used in the film. I love the soft goods route Kenner took on these figures and they came with good accessories. But articulation and sculpt were sorta lacking, but hey it was still 1991. They did however make a dead on sculpt for Kevin Costner. The card backs on these are awesome, it harks back to the Vintage Star Wars days. Overall it's a great looking figure carded or loose. As a side note many old Star Wars toys were recycled to make this line, but that's a story for another time....[

Brave Knight BowenDragonheart (Kenner) - Humans

SuperNinjaMonkeyDragonheart which in my opinion was a very entertaining film had tons of potential to be a great toy line. The good news was that a heavy hitter picked it up, Kenner. The bad news was that they did not take full advantage of it. Brave Knight Bowen was one of the main characters of the film who befriends Draco the dragon. Kenner had a good scale for these figures which was slightly below Star Wars scale, and they came with awesome accesories including plastic boulders, shooting weapons, spears and arrows. Now for the main problem, these were nothing but 3.5inch statues!! About 4 points of articulation was the norm for each of these figures and they were molded into "dynamic poses" which not every collector likes. Oh well can't win them all. They did do a nice job on the Dragons of the...[

SuperNinjaMonkeyAnother forgotten short lived line back in the 90s was based on the film Stargate which starred Kurt Russell. Kenner held the rights to this line as it did many others and they did an alright job with it. The All Terrain Cruiser was a ground vehicle which slightly resembled something from the G.I. Joe line back in the 80s. A dune buggy style with fat tires, not to mention a laser atop for shooting down the bad guy. The figures fit well in this vehicle and it seems to be quite durable. Not to mention cool looking....[

Trail HackerCongo (Kenner) - Vehicles

SuperNinjaMonkeyWhen Congo was released back in 1995 everyone was expecting another Jurassic Park, what they got was much less in story and excitment. But by that time Kenner had already jumped on the license for the toys as they hoped it would be another cash cow like JP. Well it wasn't and Congo toys lived a short life and only 1 series of figures and vehicles were produced. The figures were your typical standard fare but the vehicles were rather impressive. Using similar molds to the JP vehicles these added a bit of life to the line, and these also made for great display pieces. During the end of the run of this line these could be found for about $5.00 on clearance at KB or TRU, a stupendous deal and well worth it....[
