Shockwave is a legendary nom de plume among the transformers.Now it has been revitalized in true grandiose fashion for Hasbro. The Transformers Animated version of the character keeps the trademark monocular head and gives him a new twist.He is now a Decepticon spy with the ability to change an Autobot security officer named Longarm Prime.This is accomplished thru the clever usage of various extendable double joints located on the figure and a rotating emblem symbol on his chest(Similar to Punch/Counterpunch). To start off with it was nice to see the return of the MINICON 3-packs(what were they thinking releasing 2-packs during CYBERTRON?),even though these figures really have no place in the classics line.They were originally meant for the CYBERTRON line,but were bumped into classics. Now for the overview.In this set you are getting 3 minicons of the animal persuasion.I will cover each of the three individually. DREADWING is an avian creature vaguely resembling ENERGON DIVEBOMB in both bot and beast mode.His colors are an uninspired mix of red,brown,and silver.Transformation isn't too terribly complex,but be careful of the ball joints. Today we are looking at a figure from the TRANSFORMERS BEAST WARS line.Though he is listed on FIGURE REALM as a TRANSMETAL,QUICKSTRIKE is actually a FUZOR,one of HASBRO's more original ideas.The basic premise for these was to take two animals and give one creature the best(and worst)features of both.This lead to some varying results;QUICKSTRIKE here,from the PREDACON family,being one of the best. What is it with HASBRO making these teeny,tiny basics for this series?Rhetorical question.HAMMERSTRIKE is from the "THE BATTLE FOR THE SPARKS" line. Okay,starting with his beast mode:This is the wimpiest looking shark I have ever seen.Now take into account that BEAST WARS had two iterations of this character(CYBERSHARK and TRANSMETAL 2 CYBERSHARK)that managed to be both intricate and fearsome.Don't get me wrong this a nice design;it is just absolutely unsuited for life as a basic.Articulation is kind of meh.His tail and side fins move a little,his jaw can chomp....sort of,and his hammer can do a head butt. As far as the BEAST MACHINES line goes;there is a fine line between mediocrity and genius.Luckily,NIGHT VIPER is part of the latter.In all honesty,this figure's only detriment is its size.Being a basic,NIGHT VIPER has only two action features;one for each mode.His beast mode has a fang strike attack activated by a button on the cobra head.The bot mode has a scythe built into his right arm.
