Scorpion Gunship
Avatar (Mattel) - Vehicles

This thing feels like an 80s GI Joe vehicle. It comes needed to be assembled but is pretty easy other than you have to watch how the engines are facing or they'll be on backwards. The vehicle comes with 2 missile pods for under the wings, one of each pod is a really lamely made launch-able missile that looks nothing like the rest and stands out like a sore thumb so fixing that is probably easy with some work. The entire toy is molded in the same bland and not quite right olive drab as the Amp suit and shows no signs of blemishes from the plastic mixture being wrong, by this I mean the swirls you sometimes see where the colors weren't mixed when they were pumped into the mold. The cockpit is devoid of any detail like the suit and can easily be added to assuming you can find pics from the...[See More]

Having found this on markdown right after the holidays I decided to get it despite having no other figures in the series. The entire machine is molded in an inaccurate olive drab color with the clear canopy being the only other color. Sadly a lot of small details from the movie figure that they could have added weren't from panel lines and decals/paint applications to a cockpit that has no sign of any detail at all which puts it way under GI joe vehicles. The figure is very pose-able though with the arms moving backwards in slots like a human shoulder preparing to throw a punch as well as the standard up down motion, the elbows move as do the wrists, knees, hips, waist, and feet. Some articulated fingers would have been a cool addition. The figure comes assembled and the only real issue I...[See More]

Exosquad Robotech (Playmates) - 3" Mecha
Rated 4.00 stars by somebody1
One of a handful of non-transforming human mecha used in the Macross anime then the Robotech series, then without permission in early Battletech board games, and then in this crossover. This mecha mainly worked as a ground bombardment and riot control mecha with some anti aircraft abilities. It features dual cannon arms and a rotating radar antenna. It is a pretty basic figure with the articulation being the radar, the shoulders that let it aim up and down, the hips, the torso. Little has changed since the original release and this reissue except the plastic color is slightly different and it is scaled down as I do not think this was available in this size in the 80s run. The Raidar X is molded in a tan/khaki color with green, blue, and red added. The markings are all decals that aver...[See More]

One of a handful of non-transforming human mecha used in the Macross anime then the Robotech series, then without permission in early Battletech board games, and then in this crossover. This mecha mainly worked as a bombardment and riot control platform against ground targets and even some larger aerial targets. It features to massive arms that are cannons and opening missile bays on either side of the cockpit. It is a pretty basic figure with the articulation being in the the hatches, the shoulders that let it aim up and down with a side motion to lift it's arms like a human, the hips, the torso, and the feet. Little has changed since the original release and this reissue except the plastic color is slightly different. The Excaliber is molded in a tan/khaki color with green, blue, and red...[See More]

One of a handful of non-transforming human mecha used in the Macross anime then the Robotech series, then without permission in early Battletech board games, and then in this crossover. This mecha mainly worked as a missile platform against ground and air targets and featured hatches that opened on the "arms" to reveal the missile bays. It is a pretty basic figure with the articulation being in the head (moves up and down with 2 antenna on top that move) the hatches, the shoulders that let it aim up and down, the hips, the torso, and the feet. Little has changed since the original release and this reissue except the plastic color is slightly different. The Spartan is molded in a tan/khaki color with green, blue, and red added. The markings are all decals that aver very much like the 80s...[See More]

Ghost in the Shell (Toycom) - Basic Series
Rated 4.00 stars by somebody1
I actually found this one here in the FR store when I first joined the site. This is one of many import figures of the major to come out and one of the cheaper ones. The figure is very well made with the only real flaws are the mold likes visible on the body, most notably the flesh tone hips. The paint is fairly crisp and clean. She appears to be based on the same body as the Hard Disk figure, and in fact there is a 2 pack of the two, as the body and clothing style is nearly the same as is the head. She does have some articulation in the arms at the shoulders, neck, and hips but aside from the head and shoulders there isn't much point as poses are limited by the lack of knee and foot articulation. This version of the major never really appeared in the books so like many she was inspired...[See More]

Ghost in the Shell (Toycom) - Basic Series

I received this as a gift so the little Fujikoma mecha was missing. This is one of many import figures of the major to come out and one of the cheaper ones. The figure is very well made with the only real flaws are the mold likes visible on the body, most notably the flesh tone hips. The paint is fairly crisp and clean. The down side to this figure is that the wires are incredibly fragile and half mine were missing so I replaced them with the silver twist ties that came with some other figures and they look better. I had her packed away until I sat to write this and 3 of the original wires broke in the box. The other fragile part is the visor that fits on her head. Even after gluing it on it refused to say without a little extra work. This version of the major never really appeared in the...[See More]

Bionic Commando (Neca) - Basic Series
Rated 3.50 stars by somebody1
While the figure resembles Spencer from the Bionic Commando 2 game it looks nothing like him in Bionic commando/rearmed/rearmed 2. The articulation is okay with the bionic arm having the most articulation. The rest of the articulation is the basic NECA setup. The paint on mine wasn't the best with the flesh tones not blending and the silver parts showing swirls and paint variations. The bionic arm features a hand that is on a string and can be pulled back in with a crank that isn't game accurate as it is something they just put on to look like part of the arm instead of using a push button retraction like you find in other figure lines. His only accessory is a rather odd looking machine pistol who is very warped. The figure is very well balanced thanks to the slightly over sized armored...[See More]
Big Sister
Bioshock 2 (Neca) - Series 1
Rated 4.00 stars by somebody1
I was pleasantly surprised that I had no issues getting the figure out of the package as this is when something normally goes wrong for me with NECA figures. I was rather worried about the spear/harpoon on her arm as the plastic is very flexible and possibly easy to break off. The basket on her back was rather tough to get into place on mine but once there it wasn't going to come back off. Sadly NECA failed to think that most people would like accessories and included nothing of use such as a Little sister to fit into the basket. It would have also have been nice for the helmet to come off the Big Sister to reveal the person inside or to feature lights in the helmet like they did with the Dead Space figures. The articulation is fair with the joints tight and even tough to move in some...[See More]

3D Animation from Japan (McFarlane) - Armitage
Rated 2.50 stars by somebody1
This anime kind of flew under the radar in the 90s and the sequel faltered in the 2000s but it was original and the designs were good. The figure isn't a bad representation of her but the face isn't quite right as even in the animation she looks stern but innocent at the same time. The expression on the figure is of a hardened killer. Her accessories are interesting but very easily lost with the sunglasses and handcuffs vanishing very quickly no matter how hard you try to keep them safe. The gun being painted pink, as it was in the first movie, helps you find it and is a pretty cool gun and somewhat animation accurate. These accessories actually pretty much are all you'd be able to come up with to represent her as they're all she had in the animation. Her outfit isn't quite animation...[See More]
