King Kong
King Kong (Neca) - Basic Series
Rated 5.00 stars by RMaster007
Last year was the last one NECA had with the Godzilla license, but when one kaiju leaves, another one shows up, and it’s King Kong. The giant ape long predated the giant lizard by around 20 years, and he’s received a lot of merchandise. We got the regular Kong last year, and an “illustrated” re-paint showed up earlier this year. I got both of them, so why not kill two birds with one stone and review both of them? The packaging for both figures share the same idea, with photos of the figure all around. The aesthetic is different for both, however. The regular release has a jungle theme, and the illustrated version is more of a reddish style without the jungle theme. Both boxes are collector-friendly and easy to open, with a few twist/plastic ties you need to cut off. Both figures share...[See More]

Sam & Max (Boss Fight Studio) - Basic Series
Rated 4.90 stars by RMaster007
If you've ever heard of Sam & Max, you might know them from their series of point-and-click games, the short-lived animated series, or the original comic book series that spawned the duo. Even if you hadn't heard of them, you probably heard of Boss Fight Studios, who acquired the license to the characters about more than a year ago. The figures of the duo have been out for a while now, and are available through a few comic stores and online retailers. I just got Sam recently, so let's take a look at him. The figure comes packed in a window box with hanger, and it's adorned with drawings of the duo all around, including a comic on the back that sums up just how nuts their adventures are. The box is also easy to open and collector friendly as well, and everything is held in with a plastic...[See More]

Street Fighter IV (Play Arts Kai) - Basic Series
Rated 4.45 stars by RMaster007
I'll be honest, I haven't really played Street Fighter all that much. In fact, the only one I ever really played was Street Fighter II. However, that hasn't stopped me from getting the NECA Chun-Li earlier this year, and it didn't stop me from buying another SF figure earlier this month. This time, it's Ibuki from Square Enix's Play Arts Kai line, based off of her appearance in SFIV. The box is pretty simple in design, with not too much special things about it, but the graphics they used are quite attractive. It's also collector-friendly as well, and it's not too hard to get everything out of it and back in at a later time. Regarding the figure itself, the sculpt looks great and is plenty accurate to her appearance in-game. There's two head sculpts included with her, one with a closed...[See More]

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Turtles in Time (Neca) - Basic Series
Rated 4.70 stars by RMaster007
Aside from the classic cartoon and movies, there's one other adaption of TMNT NECA has covered: the classic Konami beat-em-ups. They did the original game years ago with two SDCC-exclusive four-packs, but last year saw them doing the more well-known Turtles on Time. We got two waves of figures last year, but it seems like the video game figures will be taking a break after two more releases next month in favor of Mirage figures, but restocks of the initial figures seem to be on the way as well. Anyways, I'm going to cover my favorite in the line so far, the Foot Soldier. The packaging is a window box with graphics similar to the original arcade cabinet, with a shot of the figure on the back. It's simple but at the same time very nice looking, not to mention collector-friendly. Once you...[See More]

Street Fighter 4 (Neca) - Round 2
Rated 4.75 stars by RMaster007
Over the years, Street Fighter has received a lot of figures, with Storm being the current license holder. Their figures, while great, are pretty pricey (but I guess that can go for any imported collectible), and I have to get my hands on one. Back around the time SFIV got released, NECA grabbed the license for their "Player Select" label and put out two waves of figures including some repaints. The authentic figures are hard to find nowadays, but I got lucky at my local toy store earlier this year with Chun-Li. The packaging is a simple clamshell with nice graphics, with shots of the figure on the side and some general info about the character on the back. It's not a bio but rather information such as country of origin, birthday, height and weight, and interests. Once out of the box,...[See More]
Batman (Black Cape)
DC Multiverse (McFarlane Toys) - Batman the Animated Series
Rated 4.00 stars by RMaster007
We've gotten a lot of DC collectibles throughout the years, and while DC Direct, their figure division, has closed it doors the previous year, McFarlane Toys took up the license before that happened in the same year, and we've gotten tons of figures already from many different adaptions of the heroes and villains. Most of the figures are from the many comics over the years, but we've gotten a few other adaptions in the mix as well, such as the animated series. The animated version of Batman is one of the first ones released in the line, and he's pretty common. The box is simple and very collector-friendly. All you have to do is cut some tape and plastic ties and you can get the figure out easily, then put it back in later if you want to. The black and blue color scheme fits, and the...[See More]
Rocksteady (Bunny Suit)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca) - Basic Series
Rated 4.35 stars by RMaster007
I already reviewed one of the TMNT Lootcrate figures, now onto the next one. The cartoon crate came with a new Rocksteady figure in the bunny suit from "The Turtles and the Hare", which involved the turtles traveling to a fairy tale dimension to get the help of Hokum Hare to stop Shredder's latest plot, and the dimwits Bebop and Rocksteady got dolled up in Easter-appropriate outfits for this plan. While Rocksteady came with the crate, Bebop could only be obtained if you pre-paid for all three crates at the same time instead of paying individually when each on is shipped. The package uses the same design as the toon two-packs at Target, and it's very collector-friendly. And bonus, all of the previously released figures are listed on the back of the box. Being a variant of Rocksteady,...[See More]
Shell Shock Turtle
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Turtles in Time (Neca) - Exclusives
Rated 4.40 stars by RMaster007
Thought the only ways to get NECA's TMNT figures were through Target, Walmart, and comic/speciality stores? Think again. Last year saw a good amount of new TMNT Lootcrates with NECA providing an exclusive figure in each one, and we got four of those figures. A repaint of the SDCC comic Shredder in the Mirage crate, a "Shell Shocked" skeletal Turtle in the arcade crate, a bunny Rocksteady in the cartoon crate, and a bonus bunny Bebop if you pre-paid for all three crates at once. I didn't do that plan so I don't have a Bebop, and my Mirage Shredder broke an arm shortly after opening him and I need a new one, but I got the turtle and Rocksteady, and I'll be reviewing the former now. The packaging uses the same design cues as the Turtles in Time figures, though it's slimmer than what we see...[See More]

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates!
Rated 4.70 stars by RMaster007
The second wave of TMNT Ultimates has been pretty great so far. Leonardo was great, Mutagen Man wasn't super interesting but still neat, and Shredder is my favorite. Now time to close things off with the punk warthog, Bebop. Comparing him to the original Playmates figure, a lot of Bebop's details have been updated. The head's improved greatly, with more pointy ears, a gray earring instead of a yellow one, and a bit less warts. The pink face is replicated here, but there's also a head that doesn't have that paint on it, in case you prefer that look. Moving downward, his back is a bit straighter, and the coat is updated, with a zipper and more visible pins thanks to the paint. The turtle skeleton shoulder pads are sculpted onto the coat instead of the arms. The necklace has a little human...[See More]
Shredder
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) - Ultimates!
Rated 5.00 stars by RMaster007
Super7's TMNT Ultimates line is great, and the first wave's Foot Soldier was no exception. Of course, you can have as many Foot Soldiers as you want, but you still need a Shredder to order them around, and the second wave was the one that provided him. The packaging is just like what Leo and Mutagen Man have, but the slip cover is purple instead of green to show you that Shredhead here is a bad guy. Two plastic trays containing the figure and accessories are here, and everything is easy to get out like usual. The Four Horsemen's take on the original Shredder figure is a lot better than his 80s counterpart. No more weird squatting stance or eyebrows painted on the head, though there's an alternate head included here that does have the old look. Standing about 6 7/8" tall, Shredder is...[See More]
