Gelatinous Cube
Dungeons & Dragons (Hasbro) - Golden Archive
Rated 2.00 stars by Milbury
An interesting 'novelty' figure, this Gelatinous Cube is made around the gimmick of being able to stick various figures inside of it as if they were absorbed and are being digested. It comes with 14 'accessories' that snap into the cube's sides representing various things it has picked up such as weapons, pouches, etc. Unfortunately the slots for said accessories are very clear on the cube making it look off without them. More unfortunately, the cube in general is very cheaply made and it shows. The flimsy plastic is a pain to put together and doesn't look too great when assembled. Originally priced at $35, you can find it at far cheaper prices on the secondary market, even mint in box, but unless you really like the absorption gimmick fans of this DND monster should skip this and get the...[See More]
Bojack (Movie Collection 14)
Dragon Ball Z - Movie Collection (Irwin Toys) - Basic Series
Rated 3.00 stars by Milbury
This Bojack is the most frustrating figure I've encountered yet from the Jakks Movie Collection line. The good points first: like the other figures in this series, it is huge at over 10 inches tall and does a great job of looming over smaller figures from newer lines. Representing the transformed version of this character, it is appropriately sized for such displays unlike some other figures of the line. The face is well sculpted with its wicked grin although it (and the body) lack the signature scars of the Bojack character. Unfortunately the main body is a repaint of the S.S. Broly figure making it hard to justify this figure in a display if you already have that one. Worst of all, Bojack's flowing mane of red hair is a snap-on part and almost every loose offering of this figure on the...[See More]
Doomsday
DC Comics Multiverse (Mattel) - New 52 Doomsday
Rated 2.00 stars by Milbury
Much like the New 52 reboot the character comes from, this Doomsday figure can best be summed up as a failed experiment. At eight and a half inches tall Doomsday at least has a bit of height, but even as a BAF the figure will still stand in the shadow of Mattel's two Signature Collection Doomsdays. Unusually for a Marvel Legends era figure, New 52 Doomsday also has a very cartoony, and apologies, but just downright cheaply made appearance that makes it look more like Fisher Price Doomsday than any sort of worthy addition to a collector's case. Even if you're a fan of this incarnation of Doomsday specifically, the 2020 Storm Collectibles figure does the look more justice. So unless you find him at a real steal, pass on this Doomsday and go for the two Signature Collection Doomsdays or the...[See More]
Articuno
Pokemon Select (Jazwares) - Series 1
Rated 3.50 stars by Milbury
If you've ever wanted to see your favorite Marvel Legends scale figure riding the Freeze Pokémon into battle, this Articuno figure is for you. At 5 inches tall and with a 12 inch wingspan, Pokémon Select Articuno is a robustly sized figure that will eat up a chunk of shelf space so be warned. Boasting 18 points of (mostly feet) articulation and a sturdy stand, Articuno has about as much poseability as one could reasonably expect a bird figure to have, sadly it does not come with any additional ice accessories to emulate its various attacks. It of course has a cartoony appearance, but it's a Pokémon figure so cartoony is just par for the course. It's not a perfect figure by any means, but if you're an oldschool Pokéfan or just really like this one Pokémon, go ahead and throw a Master Ball...[See More]
Ultron
Marvel Legends - Cinematic Universe 10th Anniversary (Hasbro) - Basic Series
Rated 2.00 stars by Milbury
If you're looking for an affordable, easily available MCU Ultron figure, this is the one to get. If you're looking for an Ultron that does the character justice... keep looking. At a little over 8 inches tall this Ultron at least has the height to stand above measly heroes, but sadly height is all the figure has. It reminds me a lot of the blander DCUC offerings: no accessories, minimal detailing, just eight inches of phoned-in plastic to rake in the cash from spendaholic MCU fans. You get what you pay for they say, and with this Ultron that is definitely true. Get him as a placewarmer if you absolutely have to have an Ultron in your collection RIGHT NOW, but if you want quality in your Ultron consider the BAF or the S.H.Figuarts versions instead....[See More]
Spiral
Marvel Legends (Hasbro) - Red Hulk Series
Rated 5.00 stars by Milbury
Poor early Hasbro Spiral. Just a year ago this figure was one of the highest priced Legends series figures and commanded regular triple digit prices on the secondary market. But now that Hasbro's finally released an updated version of her for their retro collection line, collectors are unloading her by the case and I recently scooped up a loose version (with all accessories!) for a measly $10. Is the figure really a lemon people only wanted because she was the only version of the character available? From someone who briefly owned both versions, I would say no. In fact, I think those collectors are being hasty, because in a lot of ways this Spiral is a better figure than the update. How so? While the new Spiral has more swords and slightly more points of articulation, this Spiral has a...[See More]
SS Broly
Dragon Ball Z - Movie Collection (Irwin Toys) - Basic Series
Rated 4.75 stars by Milbury
Broly is one of those characters that people either really love or really hate, and if you really love Broly then you'll really love this Broly. Standing at 10 and 3/4ths of an inch tall, this figure stands unrivaled as accurately depicting the Legendary Super Saiyan as the behemoth he is. The body is incredibly detailed, with defined musculature, veins all along his arms and an intimidating stare that does justice to the villain who proclaimed himself to be a devil. His accessories include a removable necklace and a pointless energy blast that he can't even hold. At least three versions of this figure exist - the standard version seen here, a blue-haired variant representing his repressed form, and a variant with sickly green skin that I guess was supposed to represent Bio-Broly....[See More]
Eclipso
DC Universe Classics (Mattel) - Wave 12
Rated 2.25 stars by Milbury
This Eclipso is another one of those vanilla DCUC figures that will only appeal to fans of the character. A flat and boring 6 and a half inches of nothing, no accessories, just a basic template body that would be better suited for the Jean Loring Eclipso than the hulking villain from 'Heart of Darkness'. His expression doesn't live up to even the image here and just looks dopey instead of creepy. Sadly the only other version of him is even worse so if you like this character this is your only real option at a six inch scale. Get him if you must, but don't expect much....[See More]
Red Robin
DC Comics Multiverse (Mattel) - Killer Croc Series
Rated 4.00 stars by Milbury
Red Robin is one of those Goldilocks characters who to this day has never been done true justice but this is probably the best version of the character for fans of his Tim Drake incarnation (KC fans should get the DCUC version, obviously). At an even 6 and a half inches he's just a smidgen too tall for Tim but is much more satisfactory for 6 inch scale collections than the inexplicably tall New 52 version. His costume is inspired by the tepid DC Rebirth, but is close enough to the classic outfit to pass muster for more oldschool fans. Articulation is excellent, as is the case for most of the other figures from this line. His accessories include the requisite bo staff (which thankfully isn't bendy as accessories of this type are prone to being) and the usual pair of alternate hands. With...[See More]
Akuma
Capcom vs SNK 2 (Capcom) - Basic Series
Rated 3.25 stars by Milbury
This is a very solid Akuma, if somewhat limited for fans more spoiled for choice in their Akumas than 2005 fans of the character. At just over 8 inches tall, he's got a solid inch of height on the CVS2 Kyo and Iori, and may even be a touch too tall for those wanting a figure accurately scaled for Marvel Legends themed MvC displays. He has the joint visibility problem that plagued most figures in High Dream's CVS2 line and his articulation is definitely limited compared to a Storm Collectibles figure. His topknot is also vulnerable to breaking and many of the loose offerings of this figure on the secondary market suffer from a broken/missing topknot, so make sure to investigate the pictures thoroughly before buy. That all said, he's perfectly detailed and comes with a removeable 'aura' to...[See More]
