Clown II Spawn (McFarlane) - Series 4 Rated 5.00 stars by JakkNewman Quite the improvement sculpt-wise over the original somewhat goofy-looking Clown by McFarlane. This time around he is a nightmare-inducing mofo with guns, one of which is spring loaded & shoots a missile. As with most of the non-Spawn/Simmons figures from the Spawn line, Clown II has very limited articulation, with only his arms, waist, and neck (somewhat) being pose-able. But I don't think it really matters, because the sculpt is just so fantastic. In fact even if your not a Spawn fan, I'd suggest having this guy in your collection just because he's a great conversation piece. And I can't help but laugh imagining John Leguizamo looking down at his left hand and saying "I just hate it when we turn the clocks ahead!"...[See More]
Slushhead (Kalamarr) He-Man - New Adventures (Mattel) - Series 1 Rated 5.00 stars by JakkNewman Slushhead is everything that's RIGHT with the New Adventures line. Great looking sculpt, and a simple spring action punch/chop that didn't inhibit play. His actual head, while encased can still be turned left & right via the actual dome. I also should note it's more like a gooey-slime that's in there and not water. So I don't think it'll evaporate anytime soon.
The only complaint I have is his tentacles that go into his backpack are BRITTLE as hell. I can't imagine how many kids broke them on day 1 of owning him. Why couldn't they have been a bendy material like the Toybiz Dr. Octopus that came out around the same time? Beyond that, a solid vintage toy....[See More]
Phantom Flyer Beetlejuice (Kenner) - Accessories Rated 4.00 stars by JakkNewman The Phantom Flyer was fun to play around with just like the Creepy Crusier. Both vehicles had no appearance in the feature film but any kid with an imagination could expand on the story and spend hours with these things. I used to pretend Beetlejuice would ride back in on the night sky from just being 'killed' at the end of the film by a sandworm. I'd use the Ghostbusters Haunted Humans to accompany him on his reentry into the Earth Realm. Fun toy, glad to still own it. The detachable wheel on the front is easily lost unless you buy a MIB specimen....[See More]
Space Cadet Stimpy Ren and Stimpy (Mattel) - Basic Series Rated 4.20 stars by JakkNewman One of the better figures from the line. Stimpy here is rather playable with articulated legs and arms, and comes equipped with an action feature not featured in any of the Commander Hoek and Cadet Stimpy shorts from the show; a brain missile that holds his head in place, and can be fired via the button on his stomach. The brain shoots further without the head attached. Would've given this figure a 5 if ONLY HE WAS HAPPY!...[See More]
Garlic Man Little Dracula (DreamWorks) - Basic Series Rated 5.00 stars by JakkNewman Pretty much one of my favorite action figures of all time. I barely remember the short lived 5-episode Little Drac animated series but the toyline was a big part of my childhood, and Garlicman here was quite the toughy to locate in ToysRUs or Kaybee back in the early 90s. Once I finally got my hands on one as adult, I'm pleased to report he is one fantastic toy.
He features great articulation for a 90s figure; shoulders, wrists, and legs with ball joints in the vein of the Playmates Ninja Turtles figures. His backpack is a bit bulky and does inhibit his ability to pilot his Garlicmoblie somewhat, but it's easily removed after taking off his belt. Pressing his backpack causes a puff of air to go into his gun, making a little clove of garlic on a metal pin pop in and out. Would've been...[See More]
I found a loose one at a yard sale, but it was just the basic body. It didn''t even have the breathing tubes. However, when I was very young, I bought Maggot, the yellow guy with suction cups for hands brand new at the store. I also have Igor, just the figure (also at a yard sale) without any tools.
Butt-Head (Radioactive) Beavis and Butt-Head (Moore) - Basic Series Rated 5.00 stars by JakkNewman Features the same awesomeness known as Butt-Head version 1, only now he glows in the dark. Yet Moore didn't get sloppy with the paint ap, which is downright awesome. Trouble is you'll have an easier time picking up Radioactive Butt-Head then the basic one, which could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it....[See More]
Beavis Beavis and Butt-Head (Moore) - Basic Series Rated 5.00 stars by JakkNewman I daresay Beavis here is in the top 5 best cartoon character-to-action-figure translations ever done. He looks FANTASTIC and accurate to his 2D counterpart, and even has good articulation. Bravo Moore for doing this character justice....[See More]
Creepy Cruiser Beetlejuice (Kenner) - Accessories Rated 4.50 stars by JakkNewman Ok everyone knows Beetlejuice didn't have his own version of the Batmobile in the Tim Burton film, but did that stop me from having a blast with this thing as a kid? No sir, I LOVED this vehicle to pieces. Stick your favorite Beetlejuce in the driver seat (the Shish Cabob one fit particularly well), throw Otho in the Sandworm Ring Of Death, and wheel the Creepy Cruiser around spinnin' the poor hapless victim to the point of guaranteed nausea and irritation. Fun! You can also lift the handle on the Sandworm pit to launch Otho or whoever out of the pit. The only gripe I have is with the antelope or bull skull on the hood; it could've been a cool action feature but all it does is have horns that move up and down. If they made the skull a projectile or even gave it the ability to extend out...[See More]
Sagitar (Tharkus) the Galloping Battle Beast He-Man - New Adventures (Mattel) - Deluxe Figures Rated 3.20 stars by JakkNewman What could have been one of the coolest figures from this line, turns out to be a lackluster effort. This is a deluxe figure, which meant it came packaged in a larger box then the standard figures, and obviously had a bigger price tag on it. Upon pulling my Sagitar out of his cardboard jail cell I discovered he only had 5 points of articulation; legs, arms, and his chest for transforming him into Galloping Beast mode. They sculptors didn't even give him neck movement! I can forgive the lack of knee articulation because over time weak knees could interfere with his Beast mode, no turning head? Weak, Mattel. Very weak. This wouldn't be a bother if he wasn't advertised as a deluxe figure. He gets a 3.2...[See More]
Bump-A-Riffic Stimpy Ren and Stimpy (Mattel) - Basic Series Rated 3.00 stars by JakkNewman Here we have the basic Stimpy figure of the bunch. Brightly colored like his cartoon counterpart, Stimpy here could've been a real winner...if only he wasn't wearing a sad expression his his face. Seriously how much worse could the sculptor for this figure miss the mark then making one of the most HAPPIEST and JOYOUS characters in the world of animation...unhappy and forlorn?
To give the sculptor the benefit of the doubt, he could've reasoned that "Well hey Stimpy's action feature is a a protruding, red bump that appears on his cranium. He's obviously not going to be singing 'happy happy joy joy' about this." But if the sculptor did any of his homework, he'd know that Ren & Stimpy's creator John Kricfalusi clearly stated that "Stimpy only has one nerve ending in his entire body. He...[See More]
