Gargoyles (Neca) Reviews
Steel Clan Robot
Gargoyles (Neca) - Ultimate
Rated 4.90 stars by RMaster007
Most gargoyles are flesh and blood, as with any other creature in the world, but there are some that aren't, like David Xanatos' army of evil "Steel Clan" robots. I've seen this release in-store a lot, but it wasn't until a few days ago I caved in and got it. This is probably the last time I'll mention the packaging with this line, since we all know these figures have great box art, and this one in particular depicts an army of these robots glaring at you with their menacing red eyes. Other than that, it's all the same. Same text on back, same cross-sell, same interior backdrop. Xanatos must have a thing for Goliath, as the Steel Clan robots are made in his image. The chiseled jaw and long hair are reminiscent of him, but it's basically a blockier, mechanical version of the big guy....[See More]
David Xanatos
Gargoyles (Neca) - Ultimate
Rated 4.80 stars by RMaster007
In addition to the titular creatures, Disney's Gargoyles had plenty of human characters that were just as interesting, such as David Xanatos. He started out as your typical evil businessman, but he later developed into a more neutral character. That's the thing with continuity-driven series, you can have characters change and develop as they go on. NECA's figure of Xanatos comes in their usual five-panel window box, with the front having a painting done by Djordje Djokovic and Raph Herrera Lomotan of the man overlooking a chess board with various characters as pawns. This signifies his position as the show's "chessmaster": one who uses those around them to their advantage. Everything else is no different from the other figures, but I wish NECA would stop using the same generic text for...[See More]
Elisa Maza
Gargoyles (Neca) - Ultimate
Rated 4.90 stars by RMaster007
The world of Gargoyles isn't just about those winged creatures who are "stone by day, warriors by night," there's also plenty of humans, friend and foe, from the past and present, that associate with them. After doing plenty of gargoyles, NECA has recently gotten to some of the humans, including the Manhattan Clan's ally Elisa Maza. The box art continues to be great for this line, with Elisa's being handled by Djordje Djokovic and Raph Lomotan. It fits her character well, given that she's a detective, doing some investigative work. Like Lexington, her box is more around the size of most ultimate figures than the big Gargoyles, but a little deeper to accompany one of her accessories. Elisa is the first NECA Gargoyles figure I covered that isn't sculpted by Djokovic. Rather, she's...[See More]
Lexington
Gargoyles (Neca) - Ultimate
Rated 4.75 stars by RMaster007
Since the line began, NECA's been giving Gargoyles fans a healthy mix of characters, with both major and supporting players. It's taken them some time to get to everyone in the Manhattan clan, but now they've gotten to the last one needed: Lexington. Lexington gets a smaller box than usual for this line, mainly because he's a smaller figure, but the artwork for it is great. It depicts the character in front of, or inside, what appears to be the clock tower where the Manhattan clan resides. On the inside, there's only two plastic ties holding in the figure, and there's a plastic cover keeping everything inside. Would be great if we could get that more often than tens of thousands of ties. Like Brooklyn and Broadway before him, Lexington isn't as humanlike in his facial features as others...[See More]
Angela
Gargoyles (Neca) - Ultimate
Rated 4.50 stars by RMaster007
Not only has NECA been doing pretty good with the Gargoyles license, but they've upped the frequency of releases. There were just three figures released last year, and only two the year before, but there's been NINE figures out this year, which is definitely a good sign as we're seeing more of the main cast finished up. One of the many recent releases is Goliath and Demona's daughter Angela, who was introduced during season two's long story arc. They're still killing it with the box art, with this one being done by Djordje Djokovic and Emiliano Santalucia. It depicts Angela in a foggy body of water, accompanied by Bronx, who was with her during that season two arc. I don't know if this is supposed to reference a specific episode, since it's been a minute since I watched the show. Still,...[See More]
Broadway
Gargoyles (Neca) - Ultimate
Rated 4.80 stars by RMaster007
Yes, in the midst of all the Turtle product NECA's putting out, we're still getting plenty of Gargoyles figures. One of the recent releases brings us closer to completing the Manhattan Clan with Broadway. He hasn't been too common to find in brick-and-mortar stores, my preferred method of getting figures, but Walmart was kind to me. As usual, we get some great, original box art for this line, featuring Broadway menacingly swooping over the streets of Manhattan. There's plenty of shots of the figure itself, but I wish they'd give each character a bio on the back rather than the same generic text. There's a few of those plastic ties to remove, but aside from those, you won't have much trouble getting the figure out. Like Brooklyn, Broadway isn't as human-like in his facial features as...[See More]
Brooklyn
Gargoyles (Neca) - Ultimate
Rated 4.85 stars by RMaster007
There's been a pretty big gap between the latest Gargoyles figures and the last one, but it's still nice to finally be getting new releases, especially when one of those is my favorite character. Brooklyn has a very nice illustration on the front of his box, lovingly painted by Emiliano Santalucia. The painting depicts him overlooking a bridge, with some very nice lighting bringing out the image. Like always, the packaging is designed with collector-friendliness in mind, with everything being easily removable from plastic trays. Keep in mind there are still plastic ties to cut out. As with everyone else in the line, Brooklyn is sculpted by Djordje Djokovic (who also did the line art for the box illustration). Brooklyn isn't as human-like in his facial features as others like Goliath,...[See More]
Hudson
Gargoyles (Neca) - Ultimate
Rated 5.00 stars by RMaster007
The Gargoyles line by NECA has only a few figures so far, but it's proven to be a great line thanks to all the effort put into it, and I have a good feeling there'll be a ton of new releases next year. Recently, the line got another addition, which is the elderly Hudson. Since Thailog, the line's been using original artwork, and Hudson's is really nice. As the case is with any NECA release, the packaging is designed to be easy to open, and the removal of some tape and plastic ties is all you need to get everything out. Djordje Djokovic - who also helped out with the boxart - continues to sculpt the line with a mix of screen-accuracy and more details and realism than the cartoon had. Hudson has the two head options the other figures have: a neutral expression and a roaring expression....[See More]
Bronx
Gargoyles (Neca) - Ultimate
Rated 4.90 stars by RMaster007
After being able to finally find Demona last month, it was only a matter of time before I would get Bronx. Like her, he was found at retail over an hour away from my house, and I guess whatever problem NECA Turtles had over a year ago getting stocked in MD must be affecting Gargoyles now. Still, nice to finally have found him, so let's take a look at how good the figure itself is. Bronx's packaging is the same size as Demona's, and it has a nice illustration to go along with it. For some reason, NECA used both twist ties and plastic ties to hold in the figure and whatnot, but I didn't have any difficulty removing them. As opposed to the previous figures, Bronx is a quadruped, as he's to other gargoyles what dogs are to humans, and he's a bit smaller as well, standing around 4" tall and...[See More]
Demona
Gargoyles (Neca) - Ultimate
Rated 4.60 stars by RMaster007
It's been quite some time since I reviewed a NECA Gargoyles figure, but that's mainly because I haven't been able to find the latest ones. Demona and Bronx showed up at Target first as "Haulathon" exclusives, and they ended up being impossible to find, compared to the Turtles figures which showed up all over the place. I was just recently able to find the former, but I had to go out of town to get it. Demona isn't as big as the previous two figures, Goliath and Thailog, so her box isn't as big as them either. However, special new artwork was made here, and while it's not the masterpiece Thailog's was, it still looks really darn good. Once you get past all the annoying things like tape and ties, everything is pretty easy to take out of and put back in the plastic trays. Demona is...[See More]
