RMaster007In the 70s and 80s, kids didn't have the fancy, high-quality action figures we have nowadays, but they had plenty of fun with toys back then, such as Mattel's Shogun Warriors. Created to bring iconic Japanese robots to America, the line was most known for massive figures with firing fists and other action figures. The legacy has been kept alive a bit by various companies, including Super7, who has not only made their own Shoguns, but brought the old designs to smaller scales. There's been a couple ReActions, but it's king of the monsters himself, Godzilla, who serves as the first "Ultimate" Shogun figure, in both regular and glow-in-the-dark versions.
Godzilla comes in the usual Ultimates packaging, with colors and graphics clearly inspired by the original toy. The flame backdrop inside...[

RMaster007Throughout his many films, Godzilla has had a lot of adversaries to go up against, many of which have very cool designs. Not a lot of companies aside from Bandai and Trendmasters go beyond the big G, though, but Super7 joins them in giving equal focus to both him and the various kaiju, including Biollante. Considering how the BioGoji version of Godzilla was the first version of him to make it into "Ultimate" form, it's no surprise the big plant joins him,
Most companies do Biollante's second, more monstrous form when doing figures of her, but Super7 chose to do her flower form instead, something that rarely gets made into plastic. Her head isn't anything complicated; it's just a rose with sharp teeth in the middle. It's a good rendition here, and the color of the flower is a bold red,...[

Mechagodzilla (Toho)Godzilla (Super7) - Ultimates

RMaster007Giant robots are cool, and so are giant monsters. Combine the two and you get Mechagodzilla, the massive weapon against Godzilla. Debuting in the last two films of the Showa era, the character was popular enough to continue appearing in Godzilla media, including the Heisei-era film Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, and it's this version of the mech that gets the Ultimate treatment.
The box is quite similar to Godzilla, but taller to house the character. The slip cover has a mechanical texture, which certainly fits, and the dark color scheme of the underlying box is good too. There's a more proper bio on the back for this character, which is an improvement over the wave one packaging. It's easy to get everything out, just remove some tape and twisties.
As with the first wave, Four Horsemen...[

RMaster007We all know him, the undisputed king of the monsters. Godzilla has been around since the 1950's, and has been a global phenomenon ever since. It's no surprise that he's gotten plenty of figures, with some of the latest being Super7's Ultimates. The first wave's been out for a while now, and it's focused on the Heisei-era Godzilla vs. Biollante.
The packaging is a lot deeper than usual for Ultimates, due to the size of the character. The slip cover bears Japanese text on the front and English on the back, and the Godzilla-skin-like texture is a nice touch. The box underneath has simple but nice graphics, though I wish the bio on the back was character-specific rather than generic text I'm certain Super7 copied from somewhere. There's a few ties holding in the figure, but you can get those...[
