Moria OrcLord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Series 4

DeaditorAnother decent figure for the forces of evil. It’s pretty much perfect in my opinion though there are some issues I’m sure others would have with it namely the articulation. Like in the movie the figure stands in a squated position which for this figure is permanent as there is no knee articulation. This isn’t a problem necessarily as they obviously stand like that, but if one were to pose a Goblin in a leaping slash I suppose this would be problematic. The “Moria Orc” or Goblin comes with a removable helmet, sword and shield and all of them fit well on the figure and look detailed. I really love how weta’s team designed these goblins and how every culture is explored in detail but not only the forces of good but evil as well continued into the hobbit films rather than just reusing these...[

Orc Warrior (Axe Hacking)Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Series 3

DeaditorThis is a nice rendition of a generic orc warrior which we don’t get many of besides actual character orcs that you can’t army build really. I like the design of this character and it’s action feature, where you squeeze his legs to make his torso move and when he’s holding an axe it looks like a swinging motion, doesn’t inhibit the figures articulation much. He comes with a bow, a quiver with some arrows and an axe. He holds each accessory well and the bow is strung so it can fire arrows. So you could army build these orcs maybe paint the heads differently for variation. This is a very decent orc Figure with good detail and even though it’s an older figure and has some more basic articulation it works well....[

Bilbo (Traveling) (Shire Base)Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Series 3

DeaditorI really like this but not for the figure. The accessories include a backpack that contains the Book Bilbo writes his adventures in and later Frodo with an opening to the first page saying “ there and back again” as well as a walking stick, a cooking pot a roll up matt and the worst puffy oversized rubbery sting sword ever made. The backpack is stretched to the figure itself and the figure is fine and you can tell who it is but it’s arriculation is basic and he stands in an awkward pose that can make him fall over. The major draw I had to this set was the door to Bag End backdrop which I have gone on to use as the door in a custom diorama for my bag end. The backdrop is vinyl and therefore soft and rubbery but is against a hard plastic back and unfortunately the door does not open but it...[

Saruman (Floating Palantir Base)Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Series 2

DeaditorThis mould is the only figure of Saruman we got besides repaints. His details are nice and comes with his staff the palantir (either all black or with the eye of sauron on both sides) and a magnetic base to put it on. This massive hunk of plastic suspends the eye in the air or at least makes it wobble between two prongs either side of it with the magnets in which looks like a mini tower of bara dur. The action figures articulation is very basic and the right arm is inhibited due to the raising staff action feature operated by an ugly lever on the back of the figure. To achieve a closer likeness to the late great Christopher Lee, one would have to give the face a serious repaint. Overall this figure is a disapointment but as it’s the only one we got it’s a must have to get the first White...[

Gimli (Axe Swinging) (Ring Pedstal)Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Series 2

DeaditorThis figure of Gimli comes with multiple axes and a nice set piece the stone table at the council of Elrond with a little plastic ring sculpted on. The axes included are his double headed Axe, which he gets in Moria apparently so it makes no sense why it comes with this Gimli, two throwing axes and another axe which breaks at the blade of the axe recreating the scene where Gimli tried to destroy the ring. Gimli goes on to use a similar axe later on with a smaller handle but that’s not an axe that was ever made so one would have to shorten it. This figures features the same articulation as the regular Gimli but his legs are posed slightly differently and the head is a different sculpt with a lot more hair and a bigger braid so a helmet won’t fit on this figure and the likeness is even...[

Witch King RingwraithLord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Series 1

DeaditorOh plastic/ vinyl robes you break my heart. This figure of the dreaded Witch King of Angmar is our first figure of the character and is fairly decent, but I’m not a huge fan of it. This figure is packaged with a plastic bubble in his hood to keep it from getting warped but most of them always do and the oversized robes to make him bigger than the rest of the ringwraiths make him bulky and look fat instead of imposing whilst his legs are tiny and look ridiculous. I’ve swapped out my figures with the second rendition of the witch king in armours legs. The sword is fine and detailed well but his action feature ruins a lot of the figures articulation and ability to pose. He has a button on the back which when pressed his arm stabs, which when combined with his ridiculous dagger which features...[

Legolas (Dagger-Slashing, Arrow Launching)Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Series 1

DeaditorLegolas’ first figure isn’t terrible but still has issues. This isn’t my least favourite Legolas figure, that one goes to the throwing dagger figure, but the issues this figure faces are the scale being too big, the articulation being very limited and the hands not actually being able to hold a dagger well. His action feature works by squeezing his legs making him slash or remove a dagger from its sheath if you can get it to. His bow is strung so you can fire it, which just makes me irritated at Hasbro for doing plastic where there should be string and bridge direct just giving us bows without string at all! It’s an important feature that boss actually 1 look the part and 2 work. So again with Strider I do like this one nostalgically but it is flawed and often re used in packs when it’s...[

Newborn LurtzLord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Series 1

DeaditorNewborn Lurtz is a figure that again shows toybiz’s commitment to making as many variations as possible and almost every character in the films. This is really another one for completionist’s and doesn’t offer much beyond a decent rendition of the character as well as a silly action feature of making the arms move. So it’s not really the best figure and is a bit flimsy because of the action feature, not the best but nicely designed and only worth getting if one is a completionist....[

Frodo & Samwise GamgeeLord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Multi-Packs

DeaditorThis is a nice little set featuring Frodo and Sam as they depart the Fellowship beginning their quest to Mordor alone. Those of you who’ve seen my fellowship of the ring custom post know I have 3 Elven boats as in the film and it’s a shame they didn’t release versions with each sepcific characters in the theee boats. The boat is obviously the point of getting this set and it comes with 2 oars and a removable transparent blue base which has a roll back feature like toy cars. Frodo and Sam are the same versions as the majority of Frodo and Sam figures, not great but average in a better scale with each of their swords and plastic Elven cloaks. It’s worth getting these for the boats which are very accurate and can fit the Fellowship members well, they will capsize though if you put them in...[

Boromir vs LurtzLord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Multi-Packs

DeaditorLurtz v boromir gives you two figures to recreate the tragic departure of boromir scene. I bought this simply for Lurtz as I couldn’t find any single figure carbacks of him and the boromir is the older version with less articulation an action feature of brawling and lurtz suffers from a similar problem. The detail is there, though I had to repaint my lurtz figures head as there’s a specific pattern to lurtz’s skin colouration and hand paint, but this figure is limited due to his single jointed legs and specific archer pose typical of many toybiz archer figures with a big button on the back and his eyes are painted to look sidedsce for firing arrows. He comes with a detailed arrrow with the feathers on the back as well as some firing arrows similar to strider’s with the keyhole bow and...[
