Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring Reviews
Lothlorien
Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Gift Packs
Rated 4.00 stars by Deaditor
The lothlorien gift set is an example of toybiz releasing figures that only more avid or completionist collectors would buy which is great. This set includes Galadiel complete with a silver vase and a softgoods overrobe, an exclusive Celeborn with a Vinyl overrobe, An exclusive Lothlorien Haldir with a much better headsculpt that the two towers version, the basic Fellowship Frodo with his barrow blade and a common strider Figure with an hooded vinyl cloak and some camping wrap gear (my version had rubber legs as it’s a re use of the brego Aragorn but with a Vinyl coat). Needless to say to say the reason to get this set is the elves. All three of these elves likenesses are very good but the hair is a yellowish colour meaning some repainting is needed, but the detail is all there. I would...[See More]
Aragorn (Arrow Launching)
Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Series 3
Rated 3.00 stars by Deaditor
This was my first ever Lord if the Rings Figure and I loved it, but even as a child I had my issues with it. I can see what they were going for with the likeness but it comes off a bit more like Sloth from the Goonies than strider. Also a common thing I've motives on this figure is the straps that attach the sheath to the belt are often warped backwards and a bit melted as well as his tunic being stuck to his trousers inhibiting the movement. The best thing about this figure is the accessories as this is the only Aragorn you get a bow and arrows with a working quiver, but the quiver looks like more of a golf bag due to its need to hold arrows with big soft rubber nerf ends. The sword is a decent size it’s just often warped and coloured grey not silver and the bow is just a cheap plastic...[See More]
Cave Troll (Sound & Action)
Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Large Electronic Figures
Rated 4.50 stars by Deaditor
I really like this figure and it only has a few issues that some might see as major or minor depending on their preferences. So what we get is a very nicely detailed cave troll with a perfect likeness great size complete with his chain, hammer the spear and a softgoods loincloth (if you’re into that sort of thing) so this figure has everything you’d want. The only issues people might have is it has two ugly levers at the back which are used for the play feature. This troll makes growling and shouting sound effects, though mind never worked, when you pull either lever which also makes the right arm lift his hammer to smash or pull back his left arm and then stab to recreate Frodo’s fake out death scene. His face is made of rubber so that when you use the action feature the plastic jaw...[See More]
Deluxe Gift Pack (Cloth Capes)
Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Gift Packs
Rated 3.50 stars by Deaditor
This set is rarest of the Fellowship packs, but it’s rarity comes from the only reason to buy it: the softgood cloaks and gandalfs Robe. This set comes with the worst versions of Aragorn, Gandalf and Boromir whilst the rest are pretty average and typical of earlier toybiz lotr figures. The light up staff Gandalf in this version may or may not have the earlier Gandalf heads which look far more like Michael Gambon than Ian Mckellen, the strider Figure is too small with the worst headsculpt and terrible articulation die to his “quick draw sword” play feature which also means his iconic ranger blade is far too small and finally the Boromir in this set is obviously not as good as the later super articulated version, but the face sculpt isn’t terrible nor the detail but he is a bit too buff...[See More]
Bearers of the One Ring
Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Gift Packs
Rated 4.00 stars by Deaditor
This set includes prologue Bilbo, Frodo in his weathertop look or “Rohan Armour Frodo” from that two pack with the beserker and a poseable Sméagol but all in clear plastic. It’s a really cool thing to get and I’m so glad they gave us a Martin Freeman version years later. This set is just something worth having, but you can see the inner workings of the hobbits due to their action features but it isn’t extremely noticeable and they all look great....[See More]
Ringwraith and Horse
Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Deluxe Horse & Riders
Rated 4.00 stars by Deaditor
Maybe it’s part nostalgia but I do reall love this figure set. The Ringwraith looks the part with the iconic design and a sword as well as the horses eyes have red light up eyes that don’t inhibit the articulation and look menacing. Of course this figure suffers with the rubber basic joint leg issue but it has the details and it works better than compared to the other rubbery legged riders. This was one of my childhood favourites though obviously the articulation is inhibited by the legs and the “slashing” action which essentially just moves his arm up and down using a button, not that impressive or much of a slash to be frank. The softgoods work so well on this figure, I’ve taken a broken ringwraiths softgood robes and after some works added them to my witchking making him more poseable...[See More]
Arwen and Asfaloth (Green Box)
Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Deluxe Horse & Riders
Rated 3.00 stars by Deaditor
This set of two figures and a horse is pretty average and typical of earlier toybiz lord of the rings figures with limited articulation and gimmicks, in this case a light up feature eh oh uses a yellow bulb rather than a lighter white lift which would had been more appropriate but perhaps it’s just of it’s time. What I like about this figure pack is mainly Asfaloth and Frodo’s cloak which I swapnout with the soft goods Elven cloak depending on a photo shoot in the right timeline. Arwen has an ok likeness but she’s really weirdly tall compared to other female figure so she’s out of scale and the only other figure we got of her was coronation Arwen which therefore leaves us with no decent Arwen figure, though this may not be a problem to some. Asfaloth looks great and hasn’t go anything...[See More]
Orc Overseer (with Newborn Uruk-Hai)
Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Series 2
Rated 3.00 stars by Deaditor
It looks the part but has some of the worst articulation and the new born uruk is way too small. What else is there to say!...[See More]
Galadriel
Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Series 4
Rated 3.00 stars by Deaditor
For the Lady of Light we get a reasonably good figure, her hand's are outstretched as you'd assume but they are a bit too big and not feminine enough like the Galadriel in wrath figure making this figure's proportions off. This is one of the many figures that suffers from a lack of movement due to inhibiting rubbery plastic clothing but the overall look is pretty good. I have seen people do decent paint jobs to make her look more like Cate Blanchett and colour her hair more naturally than the yellowish colour we get so it does have the right design and facial sculpt it just needs a little work. It's nice that versions of her come with an overrobe of soft goods and the silver jug for the mirror, though it would have been a better accessory to simply have the mirror itself especially as so...[See More]
Elrond (Elven Sword Attack)
Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring (Toy Biz) - Series 3
Rated 3.50 stars by Deaditor
I have mixed feelings about this particular figure. The detail is there with a decent likeness but the articulation is inhibited by the action feature of a sword slash, it's great we get a prologue Elrond figure as well as his council robes but I actually prefer the council of Elrond figure. The sword can be given to Arwen as she uses the same sword, not sure why she doesn't have her own sword and just has her father's but that's how they did it in the movie. So overall this figure leaves much to be desired specifically better articulation as there isn't much posability for what you get....[See More]
