Rock Lords Reviews
Tombstone Rock Lords (Tonka) - Evil Rock Lords Rated 4.00 stars by Karl T. Face I actually have a piece of the rock this guy is based on.
Tombstone is a typical overconfident evil henchman of the 80s variety. He's got style, at least. Carries a scythe and all. This toy doesn't, but we'll come to that.
This fellow basically has a little snake head on a long neck, spindly arms, and a beefy torso. Some damn big boots, too. And yet, it feels fairly cohesive. The "robot" parts are a sort of lime green. The deep green and uneven sculpt of the rocky areas are true to prasiolite, which I assume is the "quartz" listed on the package.
Articulation, as usual, is a mixed bag. The hinges knees and swivel/hinge hips are decent enough, but the head only has vertical movement, and the shoulders and elbows are both ape-arm hinges, which is a pretty useless combo.
The weapon here is...[See More]
Stone Wing Rock Lords (Tonka) - Vehicles Rated 4.50 stars by Karl T. Face It's not what it looks like.
I liked Rock Lords as a kid. Tom Hanks can eat it, I had a lot of toys that turned into rocks, and they were awesome. But I never found the vehicles, except a freak sighting of the Rock Pot at a KB in the mid 90s, and I stupidly passed on that. But then this came along, and I had to pounce.
Though officially a vehicle for the villains, the Stone Wing was originally designed for the heroes. It just so happened that none of the first-wave heroes could sit down, while all the villains could. Which makes me wonder if there was just a typo on the ledger somewhere to begin with. Anyway, this thing is made out of "a mysterious space rock monopole stone", which has antigravity properties. Which is ironic, since it weighs just over a pound and a half. There's a lot of...[See More]
Slimestone Rock Lords (Tonka) - Evil Rock Lords Rated 4.75 stars by Karl T. Face It's the mineral to Beast Wars' animal, Rock Lords! No, really. An offshoot of the main Gobot civilization took on naturalistic altmodes too, just with rocks. And here's one of the bad guys now!
Slimestone is a silver nugget, but seems to enjoy hot oil baths, which is apparently disgusting to others. He's implied to be pretty low-down and sleazy, using a slime gun to, presumably, make his opponents feel really icky. As it should.
The toy is a thing to behold, really. A short little robot with enormous shoulder pads and gigantic, wide-set feet. His vicious little nubbin of a head has crablike eyes above a slack-jawed jack o' lantern mouth. And it's almost entirely chromed. I'm terrified to handle it without a microfiber cloth handy. The aforementioned slime gun looks more like a scanner...[See More]
Sticks'N Stones Rock Lords (Tonka) - Evil Rock Lords Rated 4.00 stars by somebody1 The Rocklords was a spin off of the Go-bots series that appeared after the go-bot movie came out and it didn't do well at all. He is listed on his info as being made of coal and magnetite. From his bio: "Sticks 'n Stones are living proof that two heads are worse than one. They're constantly at odds with each other. But give them a single purpose-destroying good rocks-and they become an awesome fighting force. The very sight of them charging into battle with their Cactus Club and Double Duty mace is enough to send enemies flying home!" The figure is molded in color, not representing either of the materials he is said to be made of, and then detailed with black paint. The articulation is rather odd as the fact he transforms from a lump of rock into a figure allows him a very strange range...[See More]
