RMaster007Halloween may have just been yesterday, but I'm still in a bit of a spooky mood. The World of Springfield Cemetery set by Playmates is my favorite release they've done as it pertains to Simpsons. It must have done very well back in 2000, as it got followed by three more Toys "R" Us-exclusive Treehouse of Horror sets. We would've gotten a fifth, but its cancellation wasn't due to the end of the line, but rather because Fox wanted an "Island of Dr. Hibbert" set when Playmates and everyone else wanted the Bad Dream House, and PM decided to do neither (I'd be happy with either, though). The third THOH set is similar to the first with four characters from different episodes on one location, but now a more specific one in the "Ironic Punishment Division."
Coming from THOH IV's "The Devil and...[

RMaster007While I have a big collection of Playmates' Simpsons products, I've actually talked very little about them. Granted, I don't plan on going over every single thing I have in my collection (I'll probably cover the first wave, depending on if I can find all the accessories to them), but there are a couple I'm willing to go in-depth into. With Halloween coming up, I feel it's a good time to go over my favorite release from the line in the Treehouse of Horror Springfield Cemetery.
The playset isn't located inside the cemetery, but rather right outside it. The backdrop is a thick piece of cardboard that fits into the back of the base, as opposed to being sculpted like usual, probably because Playmates wanted to save money on tooling. The backdrop has all sorts of fittingly spooky imagery, with...[

RMaster007In case you haven’t heard, Super7 recently revealed that they got the Simpsons license, along with the first wave of “ULTIMATES” for them. While it’s an unusual line-up for this wave (only two regular characters and three one-offs), the figures look great and it shows how deep the company is going with the license. But years before all this, Playmates did their own line of Simpsons figures in the early 2000s known as World of Springfield. While the main gimmick with them was that they could talk when connected to a playset, over time I came to appreciate the great sculpts, good accessories, and the many characters it did. Aside from that, they also did a large-scale line of non-talking figures known as Faces of Springfield. I’ve had Homer for a while now and I may as well go ahead and do...[

RMaster007In the early 2000s, Playmates Toys put out what just might be their best toy line yet: The Simpsons. The Simpsons has gotten a lot of merchandise, but none of them can beat the World of Springfield line. The main gimmick of these figures that they speak if connected to playsets, but they were also known for great sculpts and accessories. I have a big collection of the World of Springfield figures (not a complete collection however), and aside from Palisades' Muppets figures, it's my all-time favorite line. For my first review, I'm doing Bart's Treehouse.
The packaging on the set looks great. It has pretty decent graphics, and there's a hole on the side of the box so you can try out the talking feature. There's a few twist-ties to remove, and some screws keeping the set inside the box...[
