RMaster007Given that one half of the second wave of Super7's SpongeBob Ultimates is dopey, cheerful Patrick, it's no surprise the other half is his opposite, the sophisticated, grumpy Squidward.
Like the others, Super7 seemingly relied on older model sheets for designing these sculpts, and while Squidward is accurate, he's also a little off-looking. His default portrait has a zombie-like stare, and the mouth looks weird due to how curved back the corners are. Giving him half-lidded eyes would make him look better, and give him a fitting expression. The additional heads are much better, with one being a more exasperated look, wearing the Krusty Krab hat, and the other is his ever-memetic "unsure" look. The unsure head is my favorite of the three, thanks to the great detail, but it needs some more...[

RMaster007There's been many SpongeBob toys and collectibles over the years, but Super7 may be the first to make action figure that cater to today's standards. Their first wave of Ultimates, featuring SpongeBob and Sandy, benefitted with great sculpts and paint, useful articulation, and plenty of classic accessories. The second wave came out not too long ago, and with it is the long-awaited arrival of SpongeBob's best friend Patrick Star.
It looks a bit more obvious this wave that Super7 was basing the sculpts off stock art, and Patrick in particular looks close to how he did in season one, with a notable underbite and the forehead leaning in a bit. Even if it's an older design, the sculpt is accurate, and paint is good too, although there's some uneven edges for the eyes. He also comes with the...[

RMaster007Bikini Bottom is home to all sorts of interesting characters and creatures, some of which aren't actually sea life. I'm not talking about SpongeBob himself, even though he's a kitchen sponge rather than a sea sponge, but rather Sandy Cheeks, one of his best friends.
For her default head, Sandy has a neutral smile, and it's not hard to tell Super7 based the likeness off of old stock art for the show. The head is spot-on and all, but the expression here is rather bland. Fortunately, she gets two extra portraits. One is a shouting expression, clearly going "HI-YA!", and the other is more episode-specific, being her "pet goldfish in a bowl" costume from "Scaredy Pants." The sculpts on the heads are great, but the paint isn't as good. There are a lot of fuzzy edges, along with a mark on the...[

RMaster007There's no denying that SpongeBob SquarePants is one of the most iconic characters in animation history, branching out from just another Nickelodeon cartoon to a franchise with a couple spin-offs and movies. The show has also gotten its fair share of toys over the years, a lot of which have proven to be pretty neat. The latest merchandise are Super7's Ultimates for the characters; they've already done ReAction, so this was the next step.
The slip cover for the packaging has the character's face, with a painted look to it, and I prefer these figures having their own unique covers rather than being uniform. Underneath, the box carries a tiki motif, with character artwork and a bio on the back. There's no twisties or plastic ties to worry about here, and everything can be easily removed...[
