Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Collection Reviews
Leonardo (2003 Series)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Collection (Playmates) - 2003 Reissue
Rated 3.70 stars by RMaster007
For much of the 80s and 90s, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were a household name, with comics, a cartoon, movies, toys, and everything else. By the end of the 90s, however, Turtlemania had dried up, with the toyline going on hold after Next Mutation's short run, and a forgettable run of comics by Image. A few years into the 21st century, the Turtles were making their way back into the mainstream with both the return of the Mirage comics and a new cartoon. After two failed pitches, the turtle teens were back on the air thanks to Fox and 4Kids, with the end result obtaining a long run and a big fanbase, thanks to a closer tone to the comics whilst remaining quirky and kid-friendly. This gave Playmates the opportunity to put out a new toyline, with plenty of unique variants and...[See More]
Toilet Taxi
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Collection (Playmates) - 40th Anniversary - Accessories
Rated 4.35 stars by RMaster007
Since last year or so, Playmates has been going heavy into nostalgia for the Ninja Turtles line, re-releasing plenty of figures and vehicles we never thought we'd see again. One of the most unexpected releases is the "Wacky Action" Toilet Taxi, a rather goofy vehicle released back in 1990. The Wacky Action figures haven't been reissued yet, but this seems to be a start. The box is about the same as the original, but the illustration on the front has been completely redrawn, with different colors and details from the original art, the most notable change being that Donatello is on the vehicle instead of Leonardo. The text descriptions are preserved from the original, and even with the changes, the packaging could fit fine with the OG releases. The inside makes use of cardboard to protect...[See More]
Original Sketch Leonardo
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Collection (Playmates) - 40th Anniversary
Rated 4.15 stars by RMaster007
In 1984, up-and-coming comic artist Kevin Eastman sketched up a goofy drawing of a ninja turtle, which led to his friend Peter Laird doing his own version, ultimately leading to them starting their own comic book. What was supposed to be a one-shot turned into a long-running comic series, and it wasn't long before it became a global franchise and pop culture phenomenon. Now it's 40 years later, and Playmates has been celebrating the anniversary with plenty of re-releases of figures and vehicles from the original toy line, alongside some new products, such as a set of turtles based off Laird's initial group sketch. In contrast to the usual cardback, Playmates put these figures in window boxes, likely due to them being more orientated to collectors than kids (still says 4+ on the box). The...[See More]
Night Ninja Leo
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Collection (Playmates) - 90th Reissue - 2022
Rated 4.00 stars by RMaster007
Even with NECA and Super7 putting out plenty of good Ninja Turtle figures, Playmates, the originator of turtle toys, has been keeping up with not only new figures, but plenty of unexpected comebacks from the late 80s and 90s. The old "Mutations" sub-line has been resurfacing for some time already, and joining them are two of the "Auto-Mutations:" Leonardo and Raphael. Hey, if they can bring back those weird Pizza Tossin' Turtles, I don't think anything is off-limits… provided they still have the molds. The Mutations came in window boxes with flaps rather than cardbacks, and their reissues keep those, but the Auto Mutations now come on cardbacks for some reason. That said, the artwork from the original packaging is retained, and provided you have some scissors on-hand, these should be...[See More]
Pizza Tossin' Leo
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Collection (Playmates) - 90th Reissue - 2022
Rated 4.00 stars by RMaster007
While most of the best TMNT figures this year have come from NECA, Playmates, the originator of Turtle toys, has been keeping up as well. In addition to their Mutant Mayhem line, they've been reissuing certain older figures, including the unexpected return of 3/4 of the Pizza Tossin' Turtles. I covered Raphael a while back, and now it's high time I cover the remaining two. As discussed with Raphael, the turtles in this sub-line have very strange designs. Like him, Leonardo has bug eyes and a big grin, but with his tongue sticking out. There's a lot of shared tooling with not just Raph, but the other turtles. I assume that's why they chose to reissue these, as the shared parts likely keeps costs down. Aside from the head, Leo has a few other unique parts, with his pizza launcher...[See More]
Pizza Tossin' Raph
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Collection (Playmates) - 90th Reissue - 2022
Rated 4.00 stars by RMaster007
With everyone from NECA to Super7 to even Hasbro producing Ninja Turtles, Playmates has been trying their hardest to stay in the Turtle market. They've done some stuff in 6" scale, and we got figures from the new movie coming soon, but they've also been recreating figures from their original toyline. Recently, it's been branching out into niche sublines such as Storage Shell, Sewer Heroes, Toon, and now those weird Pizza Tossin' Turtles from 1994. Well, three of them; Donatello isn't part of these recent reissues for some reason. With the packaging, they managed to use the same graphics they used nearly thirty years ago, and it definitely looks nice, utilizing a lot of the same elements as the original release. For some reason though, Playmates chose to use a zip tie to hold the figure...[See More]
Donatello
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Collection (Playmates) - 25th Anniversary
Rated 4.50 stars by El Bandelerro
They lie, they cheat, they steal and thier rollin' into your WWE collection. As a lucha libre fan I was pretty excited to get my hands on the Los Guerreros 2-pack. This set contains former tag champions, Eddie and Chavo Guerrero(Los Guerreros). The Eddie figure is not too bad. The sculpt is not the best due to the biceps being so big, you can't even set him up for frog splash(flying body slam)! The head is perfect. His abs are a little muscley, but that's okay. I do have a problem with the hands though, they're too loose on his wrists. It has the trademark tights that say "LATINO" on the back. He also has gold boots with black flames. Not too bad for Jakks Pacific. The Chavo figure has the exact same body sculpt except for the head. Chavito has a screaming look on his face. His tights...[See More]
