Karl T. FaceUnicron. The centralizing threat of Transformers: The Movie. A toy that failed to happen twice. A toy we knew damn well would never be made in proper scale, but still. After decades of anticipation, it finally happened. Unfortunately, it happened during the Armada series.
Now, Armada wasn't all bad. Play features marred a lot of the already-crude designs, but it was the early aughts. We took what we could get. And what we got here was...okay.
I can't fault the sculpt. It's covered in greebles without looking too busy, and most of the details from the movie were carried over almost directly to the new design. The joints are plenty solid; sturdy ratchets and tight hinges, etc. I can't help but feel like the fully articulated fingers were unnecessary, but I can't think what I'd have...[

Tidalwave with RamjetTransformers - Armada (Hasbro) - Gigacon Assortment

Karl T. FaceWhile the Armada cartoon mostly flew under my radar, the toys were quite fun, but certainly had their flaws. Here's one now.
So, Tidal Wave is something of an oddity: Far more out-of-scale than most, there was no way they were making this beast close to the right size, so we get a Voyager-class version instead. Still a fair bit taller than average, head and shoulders above most of my army. The usual spread of joints we're used to these days was not so standard back then- in this case, ratcheted swivel/hinges at the shoulders, elbows, and hips, plus hinged knees. Which would be decent if the knees didn't bend sideways. No, really. He can stand around, maybe gesturing or doing a Frankenstein walk, but no dynamic poses from the waist down.
Between that and the odd purple and green areas,...[

somebody1What can any Transformer fan say to Unicron finally being made. This figure was a reason to be happy and sad. Happy because it was nearly 20 years overdue but sad because of the features. Standing at about 18 inches tall he is a massive figure that dwarves most Generation 1 figures. The clear plastic parts are what got me as was the lack of articulation that was later fixed in Cybertron's Primus. The figure is top heavy, mine wanting to tip over in any given direction, and prone to having his chest pop open due to a missile missfire. The clear plastic and flashing lights were more gimmick than anything when people would have bought the figure anyways due to the character himself. The worst injustice to this figure is the fact he has no butt in planet mode. It is like they left him...[

Land Military TeamTransformers - Armada (Hasbro) - Mini-Con Teams
Rated

Collector1The Land Military Team are the most skilled fighters and soilders ever to come out of the Minicon race. Each one of them has incredible power and a brilliant military mind to aid them and lead their allies to victory. Thankfully, they have chosen to side with the Autobots. For now at least. The Land Military Team consists of Bonecrusher, Knock Out, and Wreckage. This review will dedicate a subsection to each of these Minicon soilders, starting with Binecrusher.
Bonecrusher is the strong silent type. The really strong silent type. The most he ever says is a few grunts or growls in response to a question. But Bonecrusher is not stupid, he just does not like to talk, prefering to be on a mission kicking Decepticon can. Suprisingly, Bonecrusher is actually quite gentle and caring about...[

Powerlinx Cyclonus with Powerlinx CrumplezoneTransformers - Armada (Hasbro) - Supercon Assortment

Collector1To say that Cyclonus is slightly unhinged is to say the Atlantic is damp. His basic strategy for combat is to fly directly at the target and expel every single drop of ammo he has and hope the target is dead. His near insanity and recklessness make the other Decepticon's most wary of the Helicopter Robot, especially when he gets a couple of canisters of WD-40 in him.
A redeco of the first Armada Cyclonus toy, Powerlinx Cyclonus transforms into a Cybertronian helicopter with a pretty simple transformation sequance. First, push his head down into his upper body and flip the tail section up until it clicks and holds to the upper body. Collapse the arms into themselves and push them up so that they press against the wings. Fold the legs into themselves like the arms. Finally, push the legs...[

Megatron with Leader 1Transformers - Armada (Hasbro) - Gigacon Assortment

Collector1Violent, ruthless, merciless, psychopath. Calm, calculating, brilliant, ambitious. All these describe the Decepticon leader so well, yet still fail to grasp his full mind and spark. Completely aware of his own madness, Megatron uses it to his advantage in his campaign to not only dominate the machine world of Cybertron, but the rest of the Universe as well and with the power of the Minicon's, Megatron may just succeed in his insane goals.
Megatron transforms into a Cybertronian tank equipped with the standard turret, and dual firing rear missile launchers. Fitting for his lust for the power of the Minicon's power, much of this is activated by the use of multiple Minicons. Placing a Minicon on the powerlinx port on the right side of the tank's turret and moving it along the trench will...[

Starscream with SwindleTransformers - Armada (Hasbro) - Maxcon Assortment

Collector1Long ago, Starscream may have been a noble, caring soul, but after centuries of abuse dealt by Megatron, Starscream has become disillusioned with his leader, now reliving that Megatron does not care for him, would throw his life away in an instant, and does not give Starscream the respect he deserves. Only time will tell whether Starscream will remain loyal to Megatron or finally lash out at the Decepticon commander. Has Megatron created a monster even can not control?
Starscream transforms into a combination of a Sukhoi Su-35 jet fighter and a Cybertronian jet fighter. Starscream is partnered with the Minicon Swindle who, when powerlinxed to his very back port, activates his flip out missile cannons which fire spring loaded missiles. This works in either Robot or Jet Mode's. His left...[

Street Speed TeamTransformers - Armada (Hasbro) - Mini-Con Teams

Collector1The Street Speed Team feel the need! The need for speed! OW! Who threw that chair?! Er, I get you when I'm done typing. The Street Speed Team are the absolute best Minicon's when it comes to reconnaissance missions. No mech, Bulk or Minicon, can out race this highly specialized team of Minicons. The Street Speed Minicon Team is made up of Backtrack, Oval, and Spiral. This review will dedicate a sub-section of itself to each one of these Minicon's.
Backtrack is a two faced liar with an engine under his hood that would make Blurr salivate. Constantly making promises he has no intention to keep, going back on his word at the drop of a microchip, and being a completely unapologetic jerk makes him the most unpopular Minicon with both his teammates and the Autobots. Lucky for him, he is far...[

Collector1If you need something blown up, smashed, atomized, obliterated, or all around %#@&ed up, you need to call the Minicon Destruction Team. Though they probable will kill you first just for talking to them. The Destruction Team is absolutly dedicated to the cause of Minicon freedom, even if it means killing everyone and everything to do so!
Buzzsaw, Drill Bit and Dualor make up the little psychopathic freedom fighters. This review will dedicate a portion of itself to each of these mighty Minicons starting with Buzzsaw.
Buzzsaw is all to aware of the fact that to create, somethings must be destroyed. Of course, what needs to be destroyed is all a matter of opinion. The opposite of Dualor, Buzzsaw denies that anyone and everything should be sacrificed to achive ones goal, but he is held in...[

Air Military TeamTransformers - Armada (Hasbro) - Mini-Con Teams

Collector1Minicons, a diminutive race of Cybertronian's that contain immenise power that is unleashed when they combined with a larger Bulk partner. Certain Minicons have joined together to form powerful teams specializing in certain style attacks and opperations. One such team is the Air Military Team consisting of Gunbarrel, Terradive and Thunderwing!
First let us star with Gunbarrel. Gunbarrel is an utter jack@$$ that controls the Air Military Team with an iron grip. Gunbarrel has taken a habit of carving victory nothces marking his kills into HIMSELF. Yeah, this is so definatly stable. Gunbarrel has two alternate modes. The first is that of a large fictional multi-engined cargo plane. Due to his bulky alt mode, Gunbarrel has a nice round belly. Gunbarrel's other mode is that of a giant...[
