Long John Silver (Pirates of the High Seas) Review
Long John Silver
Pirates of the High Seas (Imperial)Captain Long John Silver was one of the more impressive examples from Imperial's Pirates of the High Seas line, and also one of the earliest figures I ever had as a kid. Imperial was essentially providing an economy line of toys at the time, and as such, the pirates of this series were very colorful, but not particularly well built structurally. In the case of poor Long John, after years of play, his leg with the peg fell off. The joints of the figures in this series were especially bad. My brother owned Captain Hook and Captain Kidd, and those unfortunate figures also suffered severance of limbs due to their horrible joints during play.

Still, I give Imperial high marks for imagination as well as accuracy, especially since Captain Silver does have his peg leg and parrot, and looks very striking in his red and gold. The variety of appearances and the colors of these pirates were probably the biggest draw of this series, and made the play value well worthwhile, it's just a shame so many of them suffered the same bad end at the hands of cheap construction.
