Trigun - Vash the Stampede (Revoltech) Review
Trigun - Vash the Stampede
Revoltech (Kaiyodo)'If you like Trigun then there is no good reason for you not to own this figure' is how I shall start this review because it is true- Revoltech Vash is everything I wanted from a posable Vash and pretty much everything I wanted from a modern Revoltech release. Perfect he is not but i'll get onto that.

He comes with everything you'd come to expect from a japanese action figure- 3 faces, 10 hands, 2 different effects parts, 2 display stands- one of which being an extended version of the classic Revoltech stand and a little orange box to store all of the hands and faces. He is articulated up the wall with revolver joints present in his neck, torso, waist, shoulders, elbows, wrists, thighs, knees, ankles and even in his coat tails. Some joint swappage is required for the additional hands and faces but this isn't difficult at all and the joints themselves aren't limp or loose (albeit this is the case on mine- your experience may vary!). In general he is everything you could want- except that he isn't.

I do have some complaints not minor enough to be ignorable. Firstly whilst he does have 3 faces, all of them depict him with his glasses on. It's not as bad as with Toy Tribe's Meryl but there is the more goofy aspect of his character that you simply can't do with this guy- love and peace hand excluded. Secondly, due to his very limited release he commands top dollar on the secondary market- upwards of $100- and he really is not worth that much. There is the black repaint option which is usually cheaper but frankly, you want the red coat version don't you? Thirdly, and this becomes more apparent when you compare him to Revoltech Wolfwood, you have to ask where the money went on his mold. Yes, you do get a lot of hands and stuff but Wolfwood comes with his cross and the additional parts for it AS WELL AS the hands and faces. The second effects part- the kicking up sand part- is generic and Wolfwood has it as well. A lot of the money seems to have gone on the bullet ridden display piece which Vash can crouch on and all I can say about it is meh- Revoltechs are for wild, kinetic action poses not for crouching in a corner on a piece of plastic that can barely hold all 17cm of him. It really didn't work for me and it seems that a lot of what you are paying for in terms of accessories is that so bear that in mind. Lastly, his right leg is molded in such a way to allow him to crouch properly on the display piece but this means he struggles to stand up straight for gun-wielding poses unless you put him in some odd stances that aren't what you wanted but you're having to settle for because of the bloody stand!

Having said all of that, he is still a good figure. The level of sculpted detail (which might account for the lack of big accessories as it is something Wolfwood is missing) is really pleasing to the eye and the gunfire effect part coupled with the extended revoltech stand can quickly make him the centre of your action displays. The only thing that stops him from getting that 5 star review is that somethings are clearly missing when you line him up next to his contemporaries and for the money you will end up spending on him, it hurts the figure a great deal.
He's a great figure, puts the older Yamaguchi 13cm figures to shame, but bear in mind the price you have to pay and that you might not be especially over the moon with what you receive. Plus you absolutely must get Wolfwood as well- you just have to.
