Spider-Man (Movie) Marvel Legends - Infinite Series (Hasbro)While on the continuous mission to sort out all these old toys I need to sell, I realized I never had a Spiderman fig I really liked. All the ones I've had were generic bodies with webbing tampo'd on like a cheap tattoo. The old McFarlane Spidey was alright, but too lanky for my liking. Anyway, while looking up prices I stumbled across this recent Spiderman fig, with the design based on the recent ASM2 movie. In terms of what I like to see in spandex super hero costumes, this design hits a lot of the right notes. The most impressive detail is the stretched-out honeycomb texture on the dark blue parts, it does so much to backflip over the pitfall many other figures in this genre fall into, of looking like painted meat. The weblines ensnaring the red sections are carved "innies" instead of embossed "outies", and I think it's for the best. This way we avoid scraping off the web-paint when playing with the figure, and makes it much easier to paint them if we want to blacken them more than the patchy factory-applied black wash could accomplish. The spider logos on the chest and back are embossed, looking good against all the other sculpted detail. Keeping in-line with that, the eyes are also embossed, layered and contoured, with pearl white centers outlined in flat black. For the most part, the articulation isn't an eyesore, and it's pleasantly functional. The swivel joints disappear into the figure largely thanks to the engraved webbing. The bicep-swivel bugs me though, there's way too much empty space where the shoulder and arm join. The problem is that the arm part is too flat, it doesn't cup the shoulder part so it creates a jarring silhouette, like placing a bowling ball on a frisbee. I'm usually willing to forgive any shenanigans when it comes to lateral pivot joints in the shoulders. They help achieve more expressive poses, I think they're vital for a Spiderman figure. They look okay on this figure, not great, but they're so useful that I accept them like an ugly baby (please don't send me your ugly babies, I can't resell those). Overall I like the proportions of the figure. The crotch and abdomen area are a little scrawny, but that was most likely done to improve the articulation. This Spidey can almost kick himself in the face, which is way more impressive than anything the female figures can do. This Spidey stands almost exactly 6 inches tall, so it's smaller than many of the other Marvel Legends figures. For the customizers out there, the arms on this figure (minus the shoulders) are the same length as the buff female ML arms (like on Ms. Marvel). The hands are also the same size, that and they have the bonus of using double-hinge elbows. The upper arm is a little thicker but not by much, with a little modding you can have some sweet super-poseable female arms. (Okay, maybe a lot of modding, to get rid of the sculpted texture lol) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
