Thorin Oakenshield Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey (Bridge Direct)This figure is also one of the only decent figures produced for the hobbit line. Thorin is taller than the average dwarf and standing next to a Gimli figure this is clear which in this case is good as Richard Armitage is taller than John Rhys Davis and so he’s in a good scale, I’d say perfect. I think some versions of this figure have a very good face sculpt and is instantly recognisable as Thorin, but some I’ve come across have bad paint apps or have weird eyes looking in an unidentifiable direction similar to some Aragorns so be careful to check if you’re buying online as this is an issue to some. He comes with a removable coat, his Dwarves Sword “Deathless” his iconic Oakenshield and of course Orcist the Goblin cleaver. All accessories are detailed nicely and have good paint applications though the end pieces of Orchrist require paining as they are silver and the handle that passes through the pummel is suppose to be a tooth. I also don’t like how the Oakenshield works by having a peg that plugs into Thorin’s arm, when straps would have looked better and worked fine. Lastly the hair is such an issue being massive moulded hard plastic he cannot move his head at all. I highly recommend getting some softer hair like the Balrog Battle Gandalfs or some Aragorns and swapping it out if you can then serial with some epoxy clay or sculpey as it looks way better and allows head movement and also he can have his coat off and not look silly. An argument could be made that he is missing his axe but I don’t think many would notice and he uses it in 2 scenes so it’s not really something expected. I do really like this figure and recommend it to all, it’s one of the best ones. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
