Son Goku (Super Saiyan) Dragon Ball Z - S.H. Figuarts (Bandai)Oh wow, it's been quite a while since I made one of these. Well, then. After around two years, I've finally made one of these again and on a figure I've wanted for years. Ladies and gentlemen, I got him. The San Diego Comic Con 2011 Exclusive Dragon Ball Z/Kai S.H.Figuarts Super Saiyan Son Goku. And my god, was the anticipation worth the wait. First of all, the paint job is radically different from his original counterpart, donning a more "anime-accurate" look, and I must say it looks incredible. His hair has orange shading all throughout, which fades from yellow and into white. Is it intense? Yeah, it's decently intense, some may say it's a tad candy-corny, but I personally think it suits Goku well, because (and I'll say this a lot, but) if you go back and watch any key moment of Dragon Ball Z in which Goku turns Super Saiyan, this is what he'd look like, usually sporting the same intense orange in his hair. His face, while the orange shading is a tad overdone, still looks really nice, with his pupils also being noticeably bigger than that of his original counterpart (speaking of, mine had his hand break off the day before I got this one. Rest in Peace, young Goku there's a heaven for a G.) His GI coloring is very show-accurate, presenting itself with Goku's classic orange and blue, being much darker than his original counterpart. Same story with his arms, although I have heard complaints about his wristbands and belt not being the right color, to which I say they are, as you just have to watch Dragon Ball Z again, and you'll see that his wristbands and belt are that exact same tone of purple they are on the figure. His pants are also very nicely done with some pretty decent shading throughout his pants, though my camera might pick his legs up as a different color than his pelvis, it's hardly even noticeable in-hand. His boots are also a deep shade of navy blue, with subtle shading throughout, as well as a nice orange-red color for the pinstripes on his boots. The soles also have a cool whitish-grey color, with a brown wash in the creases, though mine are a little dirty. Another thing about this figure is the tightness of his joints and overall quality control. I've yet to hear about one of these things breaking, yet his joints are seriously tight, and how Tamashii Nations has accomplished this is making his plastic denser than his original counterpart. The original Goku has a noticeably lighter in-hand feel when put next to his Comic-Con counterpart, which just makes the figure all the higher quality. With his high range of articulation, you can get him into just about any pose you'd want from Goku, just note that some Gokus can have loose joints (mine has a relatively loose head joint,) but most of the time it's fixable. Goku unfortunately doesn't come with much, only coming with two faces and seven hands, but it's not enough to make me hate him. I've got every Goku in the line aside from the upcoming SSGSS Goku and SDCC 2015/Galeria Tamashii ones, so I've got plenty of posing options, but it might pose a problem for newcomers, so I figured I'd say it now. All-in-all, this figure is a must have. All you have to note is what I've said above and his hefty price, but if you can find one for cheap, I highly recommend him. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
