Invader Zim (Old Man Diguise) Invader Zim (Palisades)When I did my review on this, I had a somewhat negative opinion on it, but since then, this set's grown on me, so it's time I gave it another go. And I'm talking about the Wizard World Chicago exclusive Old Man Zim and Gir set my Palisades Toys. The packaging is a simple box, using the splatter graphics used on Nickelodeon merch in the mid-2000s. We also have some graphics of Zim on the box as well. The inside of the box even shows off a Zim-like background. Sure, the box isn't much, but it works for this exclusive. Let's start off with Zim. He's wearing his old man disguise which was seen in at least two episodes. He has a screaming expression, although I would've preferred a different head sculpt, and a left hand sculpted to hold accessories. The paint job is mostly perfect, aside from a bit of excess paint on the front-left side of his hat, and a few slop here and there. In terms of articulation, Zim has cut joints at the neck, wrists, and waist, and ball-jointed shoulders. Without elbow joints, his poses are quite limited. There's two issues with Zim's sculpt. One issue, which you can know about by just looking at him, is that he can't stand up on his own, especially with that big head and small legs. Thankfully, Zim has a base with a single peg that can help him stand upright, but I would've preferred for it to have two pegs. The major issue is the torso, which is somewhat poorly done, resulting in his neck joint being wobbly, and his lower body can be popped out with ease. Also, be careful with the wrist joints, because they have a tendency to be painted tight and not move. I tried to free them up, but I was worried about breaking them, so I left them alone. Next we have Gir, who is wearing his trademark green dog outfit, and with hood off. Unlike Zim, he can stand up on his own thanks to the hood, but he does still have a figure base. This one has a clear rod that goes into a hole on the bottom of his body. Be careful with it, however, because it can break easily if you're not. Gir has a nice paint job, although the nose on his suit wasn't painted for some reason, and the paint on his robot eyes rubbed off onto the packaging. Gir has ball-joints at the neck and shoulders, but the disk on the shoulders was painted tight, so they can't move up and down. Sure, you can break them free, but it will break the plastic on them a little bit. One more thing; the top of Gir's head can be removed to store accessories. You have to be careful getting him out of the package, because first time I did his antenna popped out, and I had to glue it back in. The set has a small handful of accessories aside from the figure bases. Included is a "mad dog" (repaint of an accessory included with another figure), an Irken vermin, an obedience controller, and a lunch tray. The controller can fit in Zim's left hand, and it, the dog, and the vermin can be put inside Gir's head. Overall, this is a decent set. Sure, there are various problems with the figures, but they look great, and so do the accessories. However, this is one you would most likely want to display instead of play with. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
