Treehouse (Simpsons (Playmates)) Review
Treehouse
Simpsons (Playmates) (Playmates)In the early 2000s, Playmates Toys put out what just might be their best toy line yet: The Simpsons. The Simpsons has gotten a lot of merchandise, but none of them can beat the World of Springfield line. The main gimmick of these figures that they speak if connected to playsets, but they were also known for great sculpts and accessories. I have a big collection of the World of Springfield figures (not a complete collection however), and aside from Palisades' Muppets figures, it's my all-time favorite line. For my first review, I'm doing Bart's Treehouse.

The packaging on the set looks great. It has pretty decent graphics, and there's a hole on the side of the box so you can try out the talking feature. There's a few twist-ties to remove, and some screws keeping the set inside the box that you have to take out, but it's not that hard to get out of the box. The box on mine was pretty beat-up, however, and there was a dead spider in the box as well. Then again, I did buy it from Value Village of all places.

I'm going to talk about the Bart figure first. He's very well-made. The paint job on him is perfect, and the sculpt is great. Bart has a good military general-like pose and expression, much like the episode this set is based off of (Bart the General from Season One). Bart has cut joints at the neck, shoulders, and waist. Not a lot of articulation, but it works well with the sculpt. Bart also has a helmet and sunglasses that he can wear, but I didn't get any sunglasses with mine (I did get this from Value Village. I was surprised they even had it, especially in box).

Now for the set. Bart's treehouse is based off the same episode as the figure. It has maps, a Krusty poster, and a hanging lamp. They even sculpted part of the tree as well. The best part of set is that it has a roof, which can be opened and closed, allowing for figures to be placed on the set easily. Other accessories included with the set is a pointer, a set of binoculars, a pile of water balloons, and a table with a scale model of the town on it. Bart's hands are sculpted to hold both the pointer and binoculars.

Now for the talking feature. Sometimes, figures have a lot of lines on certain sets, but on some sets they have only one line. Bart has plenty of lines on this set, all from the same episode. Bart says the following lines: "We are happy, we are merry, we got a rhyming dictionary!", "I promise you victory! I promise you good times!" (cut off at the end for some reason), "I am gonna have to teach you a lesson", "There's this bully at school who keeps beating me up", "I can't squeal, it would violate the code of the schoolyard", and "I ain't gonna get out of the fourth grade alive." Not a lot, but it works with the set. Some other figures have only one line each, but they're from the same episode.

Homer: "And violate the code of the schoolyard? I'd rather Bart die!"
Marge: "Are you boys through playing war? Then here's some cupcakes!"
Lisa: "Here comes my brother, Bart the bully-killer!"
Grandpa: "If you don't stand up for yourself, bullies are gonna be pickin' on you for the rest of your life."

A good handful of figures are compatible with this set, but only have one or two lines aside from Bart. This set is great in it's sculpt, but I wish it had more quotes. If you want to buy one, go looking around at a few secondary retail stores, or you can look online.
