Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Classic Cartoon (Neca)My turtle collection is ever-growing, and I got the latest addition here, Rasputin the Mad Frog and Genghis Frog by NECA. I finally managed to find this two-pack yesterday, and now it's review time. The packaging is the same style like every other two-pack, but they went with a swamp backdrop for inside the box, which fits the characters well. The Punk Frogs all looked the same on the show, with only their apparel being different, so it's no surprise these two share the same sculpt. Both frogs are accurate to their on-screen appearance, though their torsos are taller than in-show, but that's not a big deal. One thing definitely worth noting here is that there's two different heads for both frogs, a neutral expression and a scared one. I love the scared head because it's perfect for scenarios where they're being attacked by Shredder or Leatherhead or whoever. The paint is very nice on both figures, and the black lines are clean with no noticeable bleed. Rasputin isn't exactly the right shade of green, and Genghis' right eye on the neutral head is off center a bit, but they still look good nonetheless. Both figures stand around 5 1/2" tall, no bigger than the turtles. Since the figures share the same sculpt, they also share the same articulation. Both have a ball-jointed head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, and wrists, swivel biceps (at the sleeves), waist, and thighs (at the shorts), ball-jointed chest and hips, double-hinged knees, and rocker/hinge ankles. The joints were a little stiff on these figures, especially the biceps, and some hinges on the arms needed warm water to get moving. Aside from that, all the joints are useful for many different poses, and blending the bicep and thigh swivels with the clothing was a smart move. The heads pop off easily, though you'll need to warm up the holes on the alternate heads to get them onto the ball. The accessories are plentiful here, and fit well with the two. Both frogs each have two unique pairs of hands; loose grips and peace-sign hands for Rasputin, and fists and pointing hands for Genghis. It's nice to have some variety instead of them both having the same pairs of hands, and they swap easily. Their weapons are included as well, with a bow, arrows, and quiver for Rasputin, and a battle axe for Genghis. Like the Lootcrate Mirage Shredder, Rasputin's bow has a real string, and it's designed to actually launch the arrows. I didn't think Rasputin could hold it with the string outstretched, but it's possible with the regular grips. Aside from the alternate parts and weapons, also included are a mask, which rests well on either head of the frogs, included the scared ones, two open turtle coms, two pre-mutated frogs, and a mutant trap. The little frogs are a cute addition, and I wouldn't be surprised if the trap is a hint at an upcoming Dirk Savage figure. Overall, the frogs are great figures, with clean paint, good articulation, and a nice selection of accessories. Aside from the stiff joints and misaligned eye on Genghis, they're near perfect. I'm more than ready for Attila and Napoleon now, and they can't come soon enough.   by RMaster007 |
