Pinhead / Tunneler Puppet Master (Neca) (Neca)It wasn’t that long ago that NECA’s long-awaited Puppet Master figures finally began hitting stores, and it also wasn’t long ago that I reviewed the first of the two-packs, Blade and Torch. While I liked them, I felt that they suffered from articulation issues and a lack of accessories. I just got my hands on the second one, Pinhead and Tunneler, and it’s time to see if they’re any better. The packaging isn’t much different from Blade and Torch, with photos of the original puppets on the front, and it splits down the middle and opens up like their case from the movies. You just have to cut some tape and plastic ties and that’s all you need to get them open and out of the box. Let’s start things off with Pinhead, and the name is accurate – he’s got a tiny head. It’s supposed to be, though, and no sacrifice of detail was made in spite of its size. The rest of the figure is well-sculpted, with good texture on the outfit and proper proportions, standing at 4¼” tall. The paint is nice and clean as well, aside from a bit of bleed on the hands. He’s pretty well-articulated as well, with a ball-jointed head and neck, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows (double-type), and knees, ball-jointed wrists, chest, and hips, swivel thighs, and swivel/hinge/rocker ankles. It’s worth noting that the wrists actually plug into the lower elbow joints, which helps to disguise the joint, and all of the joints on the figure move well. It can be hard to get him standing, though, especially with how top-heavy he is. While Blade and Torch only had like one-two accessories each, Pinhead has much more. He has an alternate pair of gripping hands, and they swap out with the fists easily. Also going with him are a wrench, fireplace poker, hooks, and vial of the resurrection potion from the second movie. The weapons all come from the first three movies, and they look great and fit in the hands well. Special mention goes to the pair of hooks for being connected by an actual thread. Next we got Tunneler, and much like Pinhead, he’s very accurate in appearance. The head is adorably creepy, like how it should be, and the outfit looks great thanks to the very clean paint job. However, while the paint is clean, I feel that his skin should be paler to match his on-screen appearance more, and there’s another issue with the paint that I’ll discuss in the next section. Tunneler also gets an extra head with closed eyes and a bloody drill, and the drills can be swapped out as well. The figure stands about 4¼” tall, around the same height as Pinhead. The articulation on this little guy is similar to Blade, with a ball-jointed neck, swivel drill top, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, and knees, ball-jointed chest and hips, and rocker/hinge ankles. All of the joints move well, though this is where I wanted to mention that other paint issue. The joints on the wrists are painted, meaning that it’ll peel off when you move them. It’s not a big issue, but you’d think by now NECA would resolve that issue. As for accessories aside from the extra head+drill, Tunneler has a “grease gun”, pickaxe, and alternate right hand for holding the gun. The hands swap out easily, and the gun and pickaxe are nice callbacks to the original figure by Full Moon. While Blade and Torch were good, these two are definitely more fun. The articulation works better, with no joints randomly popping out, and there’s more accessories here. I’m not saying that you should get this and not the other set; if anything, you should get both. I know we’re getting more figures from this license next year, and while it’s not hard to predict that Leech Woman and Six Shooter will be happening, I really want to see Andre Toulon – preferably in his second movie appearance – get made. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
