Pinsor and Battle Beetle (Sectaurs) Review
Pinsor and Battle Beetle
Sectaurs (Coleco)While I was hoping to find Skulk, I did manage to luck out with this fellow, and apart from a niggling issue or two, it didn't disappoint.
So, Pinsor is the old warhorse of the main cast. Every good action-adventure ensemble needs one, and he looks the part with his barrel-chested build and impressive mustache. Articulation is Sectaur-standard: ball-joint shoulders and hips, hinged knees and swivel neck. The paint is on-point, with no thin apps or overspill. I always loved the metallic tones and often-subtle airbrushing on these things.
Accessories are as good as any from the line, consisting of an axe, pistol, saber and particularly large shield. These lead into my only gripe with him, as his three-fingered hands are held just shy of palms-upward for some reason. Rather than catching that at the sculpting stage, Coleco opted to put his shield's handle on sideways, and everything else only looks good with the arms raised outward all the way.
That's not the worst look for a brawler like Pinsor, though, and atop Battle Beetle, it's quite striking.
BB himself is brought down only by his inability to stand up, since the legs are a glove. Shockingly, my adult fingers are about 1/2 inch too short to fill them out, but it makes for a more realistic beetle leg look, so that's a win. The large plastic front legs open and close via a lever controlled by the middle finger, although mine needs to be opened up and lubricated, possibly fitted with a new spring. The fuzzy abdomen isn't shedding at all, amazingly.
Any old cylindrical object will prop these up nicely for display, by the way. I stretched a section of a black sock over a truncated styrofoam cone, and it looks stellar.
Anyway, as Sectaurs go, there's no wrong choice if you're only getting one. The larger sets are certainly impressive if you can find them, but the basic figures are nothing to sneeze at either; in fact, I'm absolutely going for a couple of those one of these days. Pinsor wasn't my goal during that hunt, but I'm absolutely satisfied with him.
