Gremlin (Gremlins (Neca)) Review
Gremlin
Gremlins (Neca) (Neca)The Mogwai… small, cute, and fluffy. But caring for one comes with three rules: don’t expose it to sunlight, don’t get it wet, and don’t feed it after midnight. Sunlight can kill it, getting it wet produces more, and feeding it after midnight results in it becoming one of these devils.

For years, the classic horror-comedy Gremlins has been a staple of NECA, with many figures produced. Their ultimates from recent years aren’t hard to find, and they’re available at plenty of retailers. Though if you’re going to start a collection, you’ll either start with Gizmo or a Gremlin.

I’ve talked about the ultimate-styled packaging a few times already, and most of the time, the front of it will have the material’s poster art on it. This is one of those cases. Like usual, the packaging is collector-friendly and you can take everything out and put it back easily, but there’s a few ties to get rid of to free the figure.

It’s clear as day that NECA was able to put as much effort as they can into sculpting the figure, as plenty of details are here. Ranging from the bumpy skin to the ridges on the shoulders and backside. The special part with the figure is the head, which has a hinged jaw that opens and closes. The only problem I have with the sculpt is that the arms seem a bit too long. The paint helps to bring out all the details on the figure, but there’s a bit of stray marks and slop around the chest. The paint inside the mouth is great, with plenty of wash to bring out the details. The gremlin stands about 6” tall, meaning they’ll be out of scale with other NECA figures, considering how they’re three feet tall in the movie. Though they’ll display great with 1:6 scale figures (if you can afford those, that is).

Over the years, NECA’s Gremlins have gotten more and more articulated, and this is the peak of that. The ball-jointed head and neck work great together and allow for plenty of tilt action, and the swivel/hinge ears and aforementioned hinged jaw help for more expression. The swivel/hinges on the shoulders, elbows, and wrists are useful for many arm poses, though the wrists are limited, only being able to turn and hinge towards the body. The ball-joint at the chest has plenty of crunch and lean, and the legs are plenty articulated as well, with ball-joints at the hips and ankles and swivel/hinges at the knees and calves. Everything moves well, though the knee joints are pretty tight and clunky.

Moving onto the accessories, this bugger has a good amount of fun accessories. He gets a cigarette, cup of soda, beer mug, handful of cards, two things of off-brand candy, two popcorn bags, and a pair of 3D glasses. All of them look nice, and they fit well with the character. The hands are sculpted differently to hold them, with the right being a tight grip/pointing hand, and the left being a wider grip. The cigarette isn’t really meant to be held, as it belongs in the mouth. The glasses and popcorn bags are paper instead of plastic, and the glasses can be worn on the head, while the bags can fit on the ears or be held in his left hand. Truth be told, I didn’t think he could hold the bags until I wrote this review.

Aside from a few blemishes, the ultimate Gremlin is one fun figure. The great articulation and nice selection of accessories make him enjoyable, and he’d make a fun army builder for those who want to buy more than one. I’ve gotten plenty other of these figures from the line, so expect more reviews soon.
