Donatello Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Super7) (Super7)Just last month, Super7 finally put out the fourth Ninja Turtle (and the second-best one), Donatello. Finally nice to have them all within the span of two years, huh? The packaging is the same as always, so I’m just going to move on to the figure. Donatello stands around 6" tall and uses the same base body as his brothers, with the only differences being the heads and belt. And when I say heads, I mean that we get two different ones just like the past Turtles. There’s the “classic” head, with a wide grimace, and a “modern” head with a closed mouth and an expression that’s generally more stern than angry. Out of all the alternate heads with the turtles, this one is my favorite because of how well the expression suits him. The belt is really more of a harness, with a holster in the back for his bo staff, which you can slide in there easily. As for paint, Donatello is different from his brothers as he’s brown rather than green, but there’s still some greenness in there. The paint is mostly very well done, with the only bleed being around the eyes and teeth. Am I really going to go over the articulation for a figure who moves just like three others in the line? Eh, wouldn’t hurt. Donnie has a ball-jointed head and chest, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles, and swivel biceps and thighs. The joints are pretty tight, but nothing is really locked up, and you can manage some great poses. The balance is amazing is well, and you’ll be able to get him standing on one leg perfectly once you manage that sweet spot. Guess you don’t need peg holes when you’re light and able to hold a pose. The accessories are mostly reuse just like with the other turtles. Aside from the extra head, Donatello has four different pairs of hands: vertically hinged grips, horizontally hinged grips, fists, and open hands. All the hands swap easily, but some force is needed to pop the heads off. He has two bo staffs instead of one, just like the original Playmates figure, but they’re both a bit too short. As a consequence, they just don’t look quite that cool in two-handed poses. The usual arsenal is here as well, with two shurikens, a kama, two fist daggers, open and closed Turtle Coms, and a slice of pizza. Let’s not forget the unpainted weapons sprue, a nice bonus throwback. It seems like each Turtle figure S7 does is better than the last, and while Raphael is my favorite one of the four, Donatello is the best figure-wise. The alternate head looks awesome, the joints move well and hold a pose great, and aside from the short staffs, the accessories are just as good as ever even if this is the fourth (or fifth, cause Shredder had these too) time we got them. Super7’s TMNT line is getting better with each wave, and I can’t wait for the fifth one to hit. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
