Skull Super Naturals (Tonka)Well, for a company that's absolutely not known for its action figures, this is absolutely killer. I'll admit to a bit of nostalgic admiration here, but c'mon. Look at this guy. Okay, he's only got 4 POA. The sculpt is remarkable, though, from the pitted and withered skin to the bundles of bone tied around the legs. Paint is simple but effective, including a paint wipe on the chestplate and some really great, understated colors. Almost no slop or poor coverage, except for a little bone-white spilling onto the legs. This is some spooky stuff right here. (Side note: "spooky" rests at the intersection of "scary" and "just plain fun". Think rubber bats and neon-colored skeletons) The reason this guy barely moves is the gorgeous 3D hologram that makes up his head and torso. All but the face is covered by removable accessories, a tattered hood and the aforementioned chestplate in this case. I especially like how the eyes are completely hidden in shadow with the hood on; light simply can't get at the top 1/3 inch at a visible angle. Take off all of that, and you can admire the whole thing: A dessicated, one-eyed zombie with a delirious smile morphs into a skeleton (delightfully, the missing eye is present here, but not the other one), and they both blow Visionaries out of the water. The fun continues with a bony shield (dominated by an eyeball hologram) and a glow-in-the-dark mace modeled after an eyeball. While the subpar articulation leaves Skull a little stiff-looking, the overall presentation is pure spookshow goodness. If you live for Halloween, this is about as good as it gets. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
