Greta Gremlin Gremlins (Neca) (Neca)I could've sworn I reviewed this one already… When NECA made its return to Gremlins 2 last year, their first new figure was one they've had in the vault for a while. After who knows how many years since she was first shown off, Greta finally saw a release. She doesn't seem to be easy to find, so keep an eye out, I think she recently got a re-release. The packaging isn't anything too special, with just an image of the character on the front. Unusually for these "ultimate" boxes, this one has the hanger as a separate piece of plastic in the middle of the top flap, rather than cut onto the back of the box. I've seen a couple boxes with damaged hangers, and this should hold up better. Why they didn't keep it for releases after this is beyond me. There's the usual plastic ties to deal with, though, so have some scissors handy. Greta was first shown off back in 2013, and it doesn't seem like much has changed for her since then. The sculptors did a good job recreating the puppet in plastic, and much like it, the hair is synthetic material, making her seem more real, though it doesn't look quite as good as it did in the movie. It's sort of all over the place, and there's more on her left than her right, rather than being symmetric. Her skirt is made out of a softer plastic, as to keep it from hindering leg articulation. The paint is decent for the most part, with some wash on the scaly skin to enhance her appearance, though the yellows and greens don't blend together well. Greta stands about 6 1/2" tall, putting her in-scale with other Gremlins, but not with humans in this size range. Greta has decent articulation with ball-joints at the neck and ankles, swivel/hinge ears, shoulders, elbows, and wrists, ball-socket hips, and hinged knees. It's a bit less than what we've gotten with previous Ultimate Gremlins, but that's because she was sculpted before them. The joints move good and it's enough for various poses, but she really could've used a joint on the torso for more dynamic poses. There's only a few accessories here, but they fit with the character. The beaker of "female hormone" is included, along with a feather boa that can be draped over her shoulders. In addition to the open hands, a pair of gripping of ones is included as well, though they don't do that much of a good job holding the beaker. An extra hand or two designed to properly hold it would've been nice. Greta isn't a super impressive figure, and a couple things could have been improved, but she's still good enough to have been worth the wait. There's a SDCC-exclusive version of her in her wedding dress coming soon, but I passed on the online pre-order for her in favorite of Turtles. Hopefully aftermarket prices for her aren't too bad. - 6/24/22 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
