Demona (Gargoyles (Neca)) Review
Demona
Gargoyles (Neca) (Neca)It's been quite some time since I reviewed a NECA Gargoyles figure, but that's mainly because I haven't been able to find the latest ones. Demona and Bronx showed up at Target first as "Haulathon" exclusives, and they ended up being impossible to find, compared to the Turtles figures which showed up all over the place. I was just recently able to find the former, but I had to go out of town to get it.

Demona isn't as big as the previous two figures, Goliath and Thailog, so her box isn't as big as them either. However, special new artwork was made here, and while it's not the masterpiece Thailog's was, it still looks really darn good. Once you get past all the annoying things like tape and ties, everything is pretty easy to take out of and put back in the plastic trays.

Demona is sculpted by the same person who did the Gargoyles before her, and she has a mixture of cartoon and realism. While her slender build means she doesn't have the overly detailed musculature we've seen in the past, she does have visible cheekbones and collarbones, and the shape of her bones can be made out on her hands, just like a real human (er, human-like creature). The wings and clothing have some nice texture to them, adding to the appearance. Special attention goes to her earrings and ankle bracelet, which are actual metal.

Unlike your typical NECA figure, Demona doesn't have interchangeable heads, but rather faces, much like a S.H. Figuarts or figma or whatever overseas import figure. Her default face is a villainous smile, and that can be swapped out for a more threatening look, with exposed fangs and glowing red eyes. The paint is very clean, though the wings have some fuzziness where the darker parts meet the blue skin. Demona stands about 7" tall, with her wings spanning 9" each and a 6" long tail.

The articulation is much like Goliath's, with little differences. The winged she-devil has a ball-jointed head and chest, swivel/hinge wings, shoulders, wrists, tail, ankles, and toes, swivel biceps, waist, and thighs, double-hinged elbows and knees, ball-socket hips, and a bendable wire inside the tail. Those lower elbows hinges were a little sticky at first, but some time in a freezer solved that. Her long hair and wings kind of get in the way of the head's range of motion, and an extra ball-joint at the neck would've been nice. The peg holes around the ankle hinge like to pop off, which is a slight problem, but nowhere near as much as her left wing. The ratchets apparently gave out on mine, causing it to droop down constantly. Various issues aside, you can get a lot of poses out of her, but getting her to stay standing is a nightmare.

Demona is more outfitted with accessories than Goliath and Thailog were, and she's nicely armed. Aside from the two face plates, there are three pairs of hands; clawing, gripping, and fists. It takes some work to swap them out, but they enhance her display options. She also comes with two different laser rifles, and the Grimorium Acranorum, which IIRC came from the "City of Stone" episodes. She looks great with the rifles in hand, and the Grimorium opens and closes, which is a nice touch. I wish she had a mace, however, because I recall her using it to destroy some "statues" in the aforementioned episodes.

Demona has plenty of highs and lows to her. While I had more problems with her joints than I did with the big guys, she looks a little nicer, and has a somewhat wider selection of accessories than them. I'm honestly surprised we didn't get her before Thailog, because she's more of a key character than him, but she was at least worth the wait. Now if I could just find Bronx…
