Hudson Gargoyles (Neca) (Neca)The Gargoyles line by NECA has only a few figures so far, but it's proven to be a great line thanks to all the effort put into it, and I have a good feeling there'll be a ton of new releases next year. Recently, the line got another addition, which is the elderly Hudson. Since Thailog, the line's been using original artwork, and Hudson's is really nice. As the case is with any NECA release, the packaging is designed to be easy to open, and the removal of some tape and plastic ties is all you need to get everything out. Djordje Djokovic - who also helped out with the boxart - continues to sculpt the line with a mix of screen-accuracy and more details and realism than the cartoon had. Hudson has the two head options the other figures have: a neutral expression and a roaring expression. Both look great, but the roaring head is missing the little scar by his left eye. Hudson has quite a bit of size to him, standing about 7 1/2" tall, while his wings are about 10" long each, and his tail is 7" long. He's very accurate to how he looks in-show, with some extra detailing so he looks less cartoony and more modern. There's a couple areas where plastic is softer to help with articulation, but the wings are a stiff, rigid plastic. The paint is really good, with no noticeable issues, and the wash helps bring everything out, especially the beard. The articulation isn't all that different from previous releases, and allows for great poses. The ball-jointed head doesn't have a lot of range due to its sculpt, but there is some decent tilt. The arms have swivel/hinge shoulders and wrists, swivel biceps, and double-hinged elbows, all of which have plenty of movement. The ball-jointed chest and waist work great together, and have plenty of range. The usual NECA ball-socket hips with thigh swivels are present, and the knees, ankles, and toes are all swivels with ratcheting hinges. In addition to all that, Hudson have swivel/hinge joints at the wings and tail, along with a bendable wire in the tail. All of the joints move well, and I didn't have any real stability issues as with other figures. For accessories, Hudson has a couple interchangeable parts, as well as a weapon. I already mentioned the extra head, and it's nice, but it can be difficult to swap them out due to the sculpt. There's seven different hands, including a pair of closed hands, a pair of clawing hands, a pair of gripping hands, and an extra right grip with a vertical hinge instead of a horizontal one. The aforementioned weapon is Hudson's signature sword, which can fit into either of the right grips or in the loop on his belt. It's not a lot, but it's enough to give you plenty of display options. Along with Bronx, Hudson is one of the nicer releases in this line so far, thanks to the solid articulation and good balance. Some of the past figures haven't been able to stand very good for me, so I'm glad that this one didn't have any issues. The lack of scar on his alternate head is the only issue, but it's a very minor problem, and I doubt most people will notice. I'm glad to be getting the main cast done little by little, and the sooner we can get everyone, the better it will be. - 10/27/22 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
