Deadstar (Worst) Review
Deadstar
Worst (Super7)What's cooler than a humanoid vampire bat? A space pirate skeleton, as this guy proves.

Much like Batula, Captain Deadstar is sculpted by Brodie Perkins for Four Horsemen, who did these sculpts for Super7. The skull head may be some of the best combination of sculpt and paint I've seen on an Ultimate, with a realistic appearance and plenty of wash to make it pop. Two extra heads are included as well: one with an open mouth, and another with his eyepatch removed, revealing a robotic eye underneath. The heads do suffer a bit paint-wise from fuzzy edges and bleed, but look great nevertheless.

Deadstar is dressed up in usual pirate garb, but I don't recall any pirate other than this guy dressing up like this. In place of his left foot is a peg leg, but not a wooden one. This one has a mechanical appearance, fitting in with the sci-fi theme (you think it's also a gun?). His cape is designed to cover his left arm, and has a wire running through it so it can be posed flowing in the wind, along with velcro that allows it to be removed from the figure. This guy is a little taller than Batula, being around 7" thanks to the hat, and his body is decently painted, and the metallic colors are nice and shiny.

The "Cosmic Ghoul Renegade's" articulation isn't any better from Batula; in fact, it's probably more problematic. He has a ball-jointed head and chest, and neither have much tilt, though the head does have some range. The arms are outfitted with swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, and wrists, as well as bicep swivels. He also has a simple waist swivel, and swivel/hinge hips, knees, and ankle, but no thigh swivels. While the knee joints cancel it out, thigh joints would've been nice for more natural leg poses. The quality of the joints doesn't feel all that good, with some slight looseness in a few areas, though it thankfully doesn't hinder posing all that much. It's also hard to keep him standing thanks to the peg leg, so finding that sweet spot of balance is important.

While the articulation isn't all that great, one area where Deadstar really wins is accessories. The three head options are perfect, and some heat on the heads helps making swapping them easier. There's also three sets of hands: gripping, wide grip, and closed. The flaming sword is carried over from the ReAction, and he also has a blaster, which comes inside his holster, and some force is needed to put it in and out. Being a pirate, Deadstar, of course, has two parrots: one relaxed, and one with wings spread out. They plug into the left shoulder, and that hole is usually covered by the cape, but it's possible to have both that and the parrot on him at the same time.

Plenty of small accessories are included as well, such as a booze bottle, a chicken leg, a key, some round device, and a "S**t List" with a feather for him to write in it. The big treasure chest opens and closes, and all the little stuff can be put inside of it. Lastly, there's a paper map detailing his destinations of galactic conquest. Everything here is pretty nice, though an extra set of hands designed to hold some of the smaller stuff, such as the key and feather, would've been useful.

Captain Deadstar is quite a mixed bag. On one hand, he's a cooler concept than Batula, and has more accessories. On the other hand, his articulation feels like crap, and the paint could be a little cleaner. Overall, he's a pretty decent figure, but not $55 decent (good thing I got him for less than that). It can be hard to sell figures from an original property, especially when these two have poor quality when it comes to articulation. If Super7 can improve the QC for future waves, chances are they may sell a little better.
