Armaggon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Turtles in Time (Neca)Well, this is it, after over a year, we finally got the last of the TMNT Lootcrates. We were supposed to get all of them in the course of a few months last year, but something happened to delay all but the first of them. This was supposed to be the second crate, but for reasons unknown, it ended up being the last one out. Better late than never, I suppose. The last video game TMNT crate was entirely Turtles in Time-based, but this one adds in a bit of Tournament Fighters love, starting with the included figure: Armaggon. The packaging for him is heavily reminiscent of the SNES box for the original game, with the sides recreating the artwork using figures. The ESRB ratings box, SNES-styled NECA logo, and a "seal of approval" are included here to really make it feel like an old video game box. I wonder if they needed permission from Nintendo to do a box like this. Armaggon is sculpted by Trevor Zammit, and there is some reuse from earlier figures like Bebop and Rocksteady, including his upper arms, hands, and thighs. Zammit did a good job replicating the shark's design from the source material, and while I think he's a little off, it's mostly accurate. Standing around 7 1/2" tall from feet to fin, Armaggon has an unusual head with what appear to be jets connected to the belt and arm bands, but the wires connecting them are soft plastic so they don't hinder articulation. The pixelated paint looks nicer than any of the Turtle in Time figures, but the colors are way off. Because of his head design, Armaggon gets no movement around that area, but he does get a hinged jaw, allowing him to bite down on your other figures, or at least he would if it could open wide enough. He also has swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, and ankles, swivel biceps and thighs, double-hinged elbows and knees, ball-jointed chest and tail, and ball-socket hips. His joints move well and there's plenty of poses he can take, but the inability to turn or tilt his head may limit things. His only accessories are three sets of hands: fists, gripping, and grasping. They swap easily, and also increase the display options. The figure is great, but there's plenty of other cool things included here. We get a second Tournament Fighters item, and it's a T-shirt of the Turtles and Shredder using their SNES sprites. It looks cool, and is arguably one of the best shirts we've gotten out of these crates. Everything else is Turtles in Time-themed, starting with a pair of socks. They feature the Turtles on one sock, and the bad guys on the other. The Krang stress ball looks great, and it won't hurt to have that little brain by your side. Lastly, there's a pair of shot glasses (or "juice glasses") featuring Tokka and Rahzar, kept safe in a protective box of their own. There's supposed to be a pin of Leatherhead, but my crate doesn't have it. I don't really care; it looked awful anyways. We started off this wave of Lootcrates with a really bad one, but we end with a really good one. Armaggon's a fun, unexpected figure, and I imagine NECA will do a second one for their Archie comics line, and the rest of the stuff here is cool as well. In the end, I'm just happy we got all four of these crates. Thanks, Lootcrate, now let's never do this again. - 12/27/22 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
