Pinky Animaniacs (Super7) (Super7)Super7 has been starting the year off strong with the release of many long-awaited Ultimate lines, ranging from Simpsons to Power Ranger to Silverhawks, and many, including me, are glad to finally have them in-hand. Amongst these releases are Animaniacs, including both the Warner siblings and the lab mouse duo: Pinky and the Brain. Since I love those two more, I figured I'd start with them, namely Pinky. The packaging is the same as all Ultimates, being a trapezoidal box with a slip cover. The cover is very simple, sporting the logo with characters on the front and nothing on the back. The main box has a pattern resembling the mice's cage, with the window looking as if it's tearing through. The back is also simple, with a picture and name of the character and nothing more. As usual, the box is very collector-friendly, with all you need to remove being a piece of tape and a plastic tie. As usual, let's start with the head. It's really good, looking just like how the character should. There's a few mold lines here and there, but they're barely noticeable. Pinky gets two other heads: one with an open-mouth smile, and one with swirly eyes and his tongue sticking out. I really like the third head, and it works as a good dazed/hypnotized expression. All three heads sport clean paint, and I like the use of red lines to highlight the mouth. Moving onto the body, it looks pretty accurate as well, but with one nitpick. The fur on the arms and legs is supposed to end before the wrist/ankle with a zig-zag pattern, but that isn't present here. I didn't notice it until getting the figure in-hand, and I felt they could've simply painted it on the limbs. Speaking of which, the body isn't painted, but the colors of the plastic they used work well. At about 6 1/2" tall, Pinky is way out of scale with any other Ultimates, except Brain, of course. By now, we all know Super7's usual articulation scheme, and Pinky is only somewhat different. His head is a simple ball/socket joint, but it gets some very nice tilt, and can look down very well. The standard swivel/hinge joints are present on the shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles, but the hips are ball/socket joints rather than swivel/hinge, similar to the recent Simpsons figures. They work mostly well, and while there's no twist at the ball, the knees make up for it. Ball/socket joints are also present at the waist and tail, but the waist doesn't have a lot of tilt. Even with the big feet, Pinky has trouble standing up, but his tail helps keep him stable. Speaking of which, it would've been nice to have a bendy wire in the tail, allowing it to be posed in plenty of ways. Pinky is one of the more well-outfitted Ultimates I've seen, with plenty of nice accessories. The two extra heads are great, and they swap easily. He also gets ten hands: a pair of wide open ones he has on in-box, a pair of relaxed hands, a pair of palm out hands, two right grips, one left grip, and a pen-holding left. Aside from the default hands, all of them had tight wrist joints, and I needed to blast them with hot water to get them moving. Because of the peg design, the hands can be hard to swap, so I'd highly recommend heating up the forearms before popping any in. The more you swap hands, the easier it is to do so. There are a few things designed to go in the gripping hands, including a notepad, a grappling hook gun, and a photo of Pinky's "girlfriend," Pharfignewton. The photo is a pretty specific accessory, coming from "The Third Mouse," but I have no idea where the grappling hook comes from. It's also a tight fit in the proper hand, so you'll need to force it in. Some lab equipment is also included, with a pair of interconnected beakers, a beaker on a bunsen burner, and a weird bulb thing. Pinky can't hold any of the lab stuff, but they're nice extras if you want to set up a display for the figures. Up until now, Animaniacs has received plenty of toys, but never true action figures. I'm happy Super7 stepped up to the plate, and their Pinky shows what they're capable of. While he's not perfect, he's still good enough to please any fans of the show. Make sure to get Brain as well; it would be sacrilegious to separate the two. - 3/2/23 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
