Storm Shadow G.I. Joe - Classified (Hasbro)I'll admit that while I like G.I. Joe, I haven't been buying too much of Hasbro's Classified Series. I've been picking and choosing with it, and there are a couple I'm excited for, such as Shipwreck and Snowjob, but overall, my main attention is towards the recently-released Super7 figures. The most recent addition to my Classified collection, obtained around two months ago, is the COBRA ninja: Storm Shadow. There's not much that can be said about Storm Shadow's portrait, since most of his head is covered by a mask. The eyes are clearly shown, and the work on the pupils and eyebrows is top notch. They also gave him a tiny scar around his left eye, and it's the kind of detail you'll only notice if you look closely. While the paint is mostly clean, there is a bit of white bleed on the bottom of the hole of the mask. The hood around the neck is a separate piece, and there is an alternate option I'll talk about in a bit. Standing 6 1/4", the Classified version of SS gives the character his standard attire, a typical ninja garb with cutoff sleeves and a strap for his weapons. Both the strap and belt are separate pieces, and the belt tie is separated from the figure in the box, but it easily pops onto a ball-joint on the belt. The outfit is pretty good overall, and the paint is good aside from some bleed here or there. The one thing I would've liked with the paint was that the outfit had some wash on it to make it look less flat and simplistic. The straps on the arms and legs have it, why not the rest of the clothes? The Classified Series is always pretty successful with articulation, and that's important for a character like this. The ball-jointed head and neck combo works well, allowing the figure to look all around. The arms get swivel/hinge shoulders, swivel biceps and forearms, double-hinged elbows, vertical swivel/hinge wrists, and pectoral hinges, all of which allow for many poses with the weapons, though the pec hinges could use some deeper range. The ab crunch and ball-jointed waist gives him plenty of back and forward lean, and below them are ball-socket hips with a drop-down hinge, swivel thighs and shins, double-hinged knees, and swivel/hinge ankles. The joints move solidly, and the elbow and knee joints are the new pinless design Hasbro is doing, making them look a bit nicer. It can be a little tricky to get the figure standing upright, however, so have some patience and work the legs to get that proper balance. While there isn't a huge amount of accessories, it's plentiful enough to work for the character. I mentioned before the hood around the neck is a separate piece, and once you pop off the head to remove it, you can use an alternate "hood-up" piece that goes over the head. I don't like how it looks on the head, however, so I probably won't be using it. There is a backpack for weapon storage that plugs into the back of the figure, and it holds two swords of different lengths, a bow, and an arrow separate from the rest in there. Storm Shadow can pose very well with the swords thanks to the vertical hinges in the hands, but said joints prevent him from doing too much with the bow and arrow. I feel that he could've gotten an alternate pair of hands with lateral hinges to allow for better poses with it, but I think that most of the time, it'll just stay on his backpack. While Storm Shadow isn't quite a perfect figure, I will say he's the best one I've gotten since the first one I got, the Cobra B.A.T. You can manage plenty of nice poses, especially with the swords, though I feel a few improvements here and there would help the figure. But still, he's somewhat convinced me to get some more of these figures. Aside from some of the upcoming stuff, that Sgt. Slaughter is one I'm interested in picking up at some point. - 3/18/23 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
