Jagwar (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Neca)) Review
Jagwar
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Neca) (Neca)While I haven't had any really huge success with NECA and Target's Haul-a-thon event, the few figures I have been able to get from it have been pretty great, including the last Adventures figure for now: Jagwar.

Like the other two recent figures, Jagwar is sculpted by Tony Cipriano and Kushwara Studios, and the head… well, it's okay. The eyes come off a bit too cartoony for me; they looked fine on Dreadmon, but here they kinda pushed it. There is an alternate head with narrower eyes, and that one definitely looks nicer. The hairs on the top of his head, along with the cheek fur, stand out too much, and comparing it to the packaging's illustrations along with panels from the source material, I doubt he was ever drawn like this. Both heads get a hinged jaw, which is a cool touch, and it blend in pretty well with his sculpt. The portraits are decent, but some touching up could have been done to them.

Standing around 6 1/2" tall, Jagwar is a pretty buff guy, with some mold sharing between Dreadmon for most of the arms and legs. The most he gets for clothes are a grass necklace, skirt, and wrist bands, and these are done in a softer material, and in the case of the skirt, it won't restrict articulation. The fur gets some very nice texturing as well, making him seem less flat and more realistic. The paint is mostly clean, with nice work on the lines and fur pattern, but there are some stray marks and uncolored areas here and there.

Jagwar gets plenty of useful articulation, including a hinged jaw, ball-jointed head and chest, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, tail, and ankles, swivel biceps, waist, and thighs, ball/socket hips, double-hinged knees, and a bendy wire inside the tail. Aside from some of the usual stuck joints, Jagwar move well, and he can manage some pretty nice poses. My only suggestion is that they could have given him a joint at the base of the neck. He looks up and down and all around just fine with the head joint, but having a neck joint would allow for some pretty cool poses.

Jagwar gets a nice amount of accessories, all of which work well with the character. There is the alternate "fierce" head, and it's definitely my preferred look, though it's a tight fit, so I'd recommend heating it up before popping it on. He also gets six hands - two fists, two gripping, wide open right, and relaxed left - all carried over from Dreadmon. He also gets a Malignoid (more Dreadmon reuse), a bowl of fruit, a fish on a stick, a campfire, and a baby Jagwar. All of the extras look great, thanks to some nice detail and paint. As for the fish, I recall it being mentioned in an interview that Nickelodeon was concerned with the graphic nature of it, but Dreadmon did have a bowl with organs in it, and there were worse things in the comic anyway.

Overall, Jagwar is another very nice figure in this line, and while I would've liked some more accurate heads, along with articulation at the neck and not just the head, he's still very solid. Like Dreadmon, this is the first time the character's even been done in plastic, and NECA surely did him justice. I hope we get some more figures announced soon; I would love to get the rest of the Mutanimals.
