Brooklyn (Gargoyles (Neca)) Review
Brooklyn
Gargoyles (Neca) (Neca)There's been a pretty big gap between the latest Gargoyles figures and the last one, but it's still nice to finally be getting new releases, especially when one of those is my favorite character.

Brooklyn has a very nice illustration on the front of his box, lovingly painted by Emiliano Santalucia. The painting depicts him overlooking a bridge, with some very nice lighting bringing out the image. Like always, the packaging is designed with collector-friendliness in mind, with everything being easily removable from plastic trays. Keep in mind there are still plastic ties to cut out.

As with everyone else in the line, Brooklyn is sculpted by Djordje Djokovic (who also did the line art for the box illustration). Brooklyn isn't as human-like in his facial features as others like Goliath, Hudson, and Demona are, with a beak-like mouth and horns giving off a demon vibe. The head is very accurate, with realistic detail in his long hair, and even a hinged jaw thanks to his design. Brooklyn also gets an alternate head with blank, white eyes and a roaring mouth, and it looks very nice. There's no jaw hinge on this one, but such a joint couldn't manage this expression.

Brooklyn stands roughly 7 1/4" tall, and his wings are even bigger, being about 11" long each. Good luck finding room for this guy on the shelf. The line takes a more detailed, realistic approach to these characters, and it usually works, but I don't think it suits Brooklyn very well. He's much leaner than Goliath, and while he has some buffness to him, I feel they went overboard with the musculature and veins on the figure. The paint work is stellar, with clean work and plenty of wash to make him pop.

The usual articulation scheme for Gargoyles is present here, with a ball-jointed head and chest, swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, knees, ankles, mid-foot, wings, and tail, swivel biceps, waist, and thighs, double-hinged elbows, ball/socket hips, and a bendy wire in the tail. Brooklyn adds two extra points of movement - a ball-jointed neck and a hinged haw on the default head. The joints are very solid, and plenty of poses can be achieved, but the head doesn't get much range due to the hair, and the neck doesn't move too well either. Balance is also an issue for him, not helped by the left ankle being slightly loose, so have a base on hand.

Brooklyn sports some nice accessories, starting with the alternate fierce head. It swaps easily, though you will want to pop out the wings before doing so, as they can get in the way. He also gets three pairs of hands - clawing, gripping, and closed - and the right grip hand gets a vertical hinge instead of a lateral one. I don't recognize the lance as part of his character, but it's a very cool weapon, though you'll need to pry open the right grip to get it in there. Rounding things out are a pair of sunglasses, which fits on both heads, and some torn-out spellbook pages, calling back to "Temptation" and complimenting one of Demona's accessories.

Brooklyn isn't perfect, but he serves to be another great release in the line, and another step towards completing the main clan. I hope one day, NECA can do a leather jacket version with a motorcycle, coming from the aforementioned "Temptation," or even a white, icy Brooklyn inspired by the old Kenner line. The possibilities are near-endless.
