InuYasha (with Tetsusaiga Sword) Inuyasha (Toynami)There's a lot of well-known anime/manga classics out there, and one that happens to be my personal favorite is InuYasha. It has a good mix of action, romance, and comedy, and the English dub was pretty darn good as well. I will admit I need to give it a proper rewatch, though. Surprisingly, the property hasn't gotten too much in terms of action figures. Sure, we got the Nendoroids now if you don't mind "chibi" versions of the characters, but the only proper line was done by Toynami, back in the 2000s when shows like it and Family Guy were huge thanks to Adult Swim. The big cardback packaging is simple in design, but the graphics are fitting, and everything inside is easy to get out. While the back does offer images of the figure, there are no credits as to who worked on the figure, something Toynami was usually pretty good about doing. Then again, this was only wave one. I'm not sure who did Inuyasha's sculpt since nobody is credited, but it looks very accurate to the character. The expression is basic but appropriate, and sculpting his hair flowing in the wind makes the figure as a whole look more dynamic. I think the hair is a little shorter than it should be, but other than that, the head is great. The paint isn't as nice, however, as the skin tone is a little tanner than it should be, and the work on the eyes is pretty sloppy. Standing around 5 1/2" tall, Inuyasha is sculpted in a "battle-ready" pose, and it works given the limited articulation (more on that in a bit). The outfit has a lot of sculpted folds and wrinkles, and it looks great, but I will admit the colors are flat due to it being mostly colored plastic rather than paint. The few areas on the body where there is paint is clean, though, which is more than what can be said for the eyes. Be careful with the little strings poking out of the sleeves, as one of them broke off for me. Most of the time, Toynami's figures have little articulation; just look at their Futurama figures. Inuyasha is no exception, as he only moves at the head, shoulders, forearms, and waist. While most of the joints are swivels, the head is a semi-ball peg that can look up and down pretty well. It's not much, but it's enough to change up his pose on the shelf a bit. Despite how they look, the shins are not swivels. Believe me, I tried moving them, but no go. As everyone knows, Inuyasha wields a big sword known as the Tessaiga (or "Tetsusaiga" as the packaging calls it), so it had to be included here. The two forms of the sword are actually included: its standard form, and its powerless form, which resembles a normal katana. The big version fits in the figure's right hand with ease, but not so much the smaller version. It does fit easily into a scabbard, and that slides into a loop on the waist. So yeah, not much, but it's all the guy really needs. While not much of a figure, Inuyasha is still pretty good. The sculpt looks great, and while the paint could've been better, it's still a nice overall appearance, and the articulation isn't half-bad either. I'm still holding out hope for a new line of figures for this property, with more articulation and accessories than Toynami ever did, because it really needs it. - 5/31/23 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
