Psycho Go-Bots (Tonka)Now this is an interesting design! Psycho was the stock "crazy guy" on the villain team, and it's said that only Cy-Kill can control him. Sort of a goofy trope, but apparently he disassembled Leader-1 at some point (he got better), so that's points in his favor. Who else has taken out a hero like that? Serpentor? Megatron? These are the big leagues, son! Speaking of big, Super Gobots are hefty and solid toys, and this one doesn't disappoint. I'd describe it as a "zeerust automobile", but I guess that's to be expected with this one: like most of the series, Psycho is a fundamentally unchanged release of a Machine Robo toy. No shame in that, Hasbro mined at least 2 companies. Anyway, this particular piece is the Psychoroid, which some of you may remember from Space Adventure Cobra. In fact, amusingly, the manufacturers left the tiny figurines of Cobra and Lady Armaroid in there, dutifully vac-metalizing the latter while they were at it. Die cast parts are limited to the lower legs. Transformation is classic and straightforward: unfold the limbs, fold the car in half, done. As a somewhat retro design, it shares the stoic pose and simplistic, chromed limbs of many a Gobot. The head, as is also common with Supers, is simply the roof of the vehicle, windows and all. With "Future Machine" still proudly emblazoned across its chest. Articulation is a tad lacking, with swivel-hinge shoulders, T-crotch, and hinged knees. The pincers can flap up and down, but that doesn't really count. Is it cheesy looking? Oh yeah, in both modes. But it's got that crude 70s sci-fi charm I love so much, and frankly, it's a damn solid toy almost 40 years later. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
