Alf (Cosmic Con) ALF (Neca) (Neca)As we all know, San Diego Comic Con came and went, and with it were plenty of exclusives. The companies made sure to include online options for those who couldn't make it, such as NECA, who was smart enough to put up pre-orders for theirs before the show. One of which is a convention-themed variant of ALF, ready for "Cosmic Con." The packaging is similar in execution to the regular ALF, albeit with more of a space theme. It's simple, but has nice shots of the figure, along with some of ALF's wit. It's also easy to get everything opened up, with just some tape and plastic strips to remove. ALF's sculpt is the same here, done by Thomas Gwyn and standing 5 3/4" tall, but with two differences to his overall appearance. One is the paint, as his fur's more of a lighter tan color than the regular release. I assume this was done to set apart the two a bit more, and he's still got some nice wash here, along with clean lines. The other difference is the shirt. The regular ALF had a funky yellow shirt inspired by the cartoon adaption, but Cosmic Con ALF gets a floral Hawaiian shirt that looks great and fits on and off him easily. There's also the "Melmac Cosmic Con" badge and lanyard that goes around his neck, and the collar of the shirt flips down to hold it in place. If you don't want it on him, the head pops off easily so it can be removed. Same sculpt means same articulation for ALF, including that innovative head movement where the upper half is on a barbell joint, while the jaw is a ball-hinge. Other than that, there's a barbell neck and chest, swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, knees, and ankles, double swivel/hinge elbows, ball-jointed hips, and swivel thighs. One thing I didn't point out on the regular ALF was that there's a ball waist hidden inside the lower body, and it helps give the chest some extra range. The joints move well, and he can achieve all the same poses as the regular ALF. There aren't as much accessories here, but what he gets fits with the theme. ALF gets six hands total: two open, two pointing, tight right grip, and wide left grip. All of this comes from the regular figure, with the more open right grip not being included here. The sunglasses are also reused, and I had less issue getting them on the figure. The big video camera is unique here, and while it's minimal on color, the details are great. Also here are a photography camera and a phone, both with an 80's theme. They fit ALF well, and the camera is more designed to hang around his neck. Lastly, there's a cloth tote bag that is worn on his back, and is big enough to store some little extras. If you collect any of Zuru's Mini Brands, these'll go just fine with him. Cosmic Con ALF is what a con exclusive should be: an unique variant of an already-released figure. He's nicely executed, and I love the old tech he comes with. Take note, every other figure company out there; make your figures into convention goers for the next comic con. - 8/4/23 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
