Broadway Gargoyles (Neca) (Neca)Yes, in the midst of all the Turtle product NECA's putting out, we're still getting plenty of Gargoyles figures. One of the recent releases brings us closer to completing the Manhattan Clan with Broadway. He hasn't been too common to find in brick-and-mortar stores, my preferred method of getting figures, but Walmart was kind to me. As usual, we get some great, original box art for this line, featuring Broadway menacingly swooping over the streets of Manhattan. There's plenty of shots of the figure itself, but I wish they'd give each character a bio on the back rather than the same generic text. There's a few of those plastic ties to remove, but aside from those, you won't have much trouble getting the figure out. Like Brooklyn, Broadway isn't as human-like in his facial features as some of the other gargoyles are. He has a big underbite, two protruding fangs, and fin-like ears. Like the others, he has two head sculpts - one neutral and determined-looking, and another with the blank eyes and fierce roar. The paint is pretty good, but the alternate head has some bleed on the teeth. Djordje Djokovic continues to sculpt the line, and he does a good job blending the designs of the show with realism. Standing around 7" tall, Broadway is accurate to the show, but with more prominent musculature than usual. It's kinda ironic since he's the clan's resident food enthusiast, hence his potbelly. The detailed muscles look nice (and fit him more than Brooklyn), and the wash on the skin help bring them out more. Like most of the clan, he wears nothing more but a tattered loincloth with belt, and the texture and paint on them is nice. Of course, there's the giant wings, with a span of about 20", so make sure you have enough room on the shelf for him. The usual articulation is present on Broadway, with a barbell head and chest, swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, knees, ankles, toes, wings, and tail, swivel biceps, waist, and thighs, double-hinged elbows, ball-jointed hips, and a bendy wire in the table. The joints move pretty well, with the joints in the legs and especially the wings being ratcheted so they hold up better. I find it odd the waist is a swivel and not a ball, since they were able to pull that off with Hudson and his gut. He does have trouble standing up, but the tail can be used to help prop him up. I'd prefer using a base for him, though. The accessories are what we'd expect out of this line, with interchangeable heads and hands, a weapon, and other character-specific stuff. The roaring head looks nice, and it along with the regular head pop on and off the ball with ease. Hand options include 2x clawing, 2x closed, a vertically-hinged tight grip right, and a wide grip left. They all swap with ease, but the right forearm has a socket slightly wider than it should be, but not enough that the hand won't stay in. The axe and mace are based off the Kenner figure, and get some great paint work. The two weapons can connect to make a larger weapon, a feature carried over from said old toy. Rounding things out are some foodstuffs, with a bag of popcorn, a half-eaten drumstick, and some moss, like he ate in the first episode. Broadway is another solid release from the line, with a great sculpt and some nice accessories. NECA recently revealed a "detective" version with a softgoods trenchcoat and some unique extras, and I've been waiting for that version for a while, so I'll definitely be grabbing it when it comes out. - 8/22/23 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
