Cobra Commander (G.I. Joe (Super7)) Review
Cobra Commander
G.I. Joe (Super7) (Super7)One of the most iconic 80s villains, and would-be most dangerous terrorist… if the Joes didn't foil his plans every other day, and if he didn't run away every time.

As a foe whose true identity is a mystery, just like the person who sculpted this figure, Cobra Commander is commonly seen wearing what appears to be a metal mask, along with a blue helmet. The sculpt for the head looks good, since it's hard to screw up a portrait with no visible face. I thought the helmet was too high up on the head at first, but it looks fine in-hand aside from being a little off-center. Although the hooded look was just as common in-show, Hasbro barred Super7 from doing it for some reason. Instead, they threw in another masked head without the gray stripe on his helmet, a nod to the original CC figure. Paint is somewhat of a mixed bag as while the metallic look is great for the mask, the stripe on the helmet suffers from bleed and fuzzy edges.

Standing 7" tall, Cobra Commander sports a nearly-all-blue outfit, and the colors on the figure are nice and bold. Granted, there is a bit of glossiness to the sculpt, but it fits for the gloves and shoes. There is some bleed and fuzziness here and there, and the C.O.B.R.A. symbol on his chest is too small. The outfit gets some subtle wrinkling and folds, and looks nice overall aside from some visible seam lines. Let's not forget the cape, being a big piece of fabric with posable wiring in it to allow for dynamic looks. There's nothing attaching it to the body, but the wiring can be used to hold it onto the shoulders.

The commander gets pretty solid articulation, with a barbell head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and ankles, swivel biceps, thighs, and calves, ball-jointed waist, hinged knees, and an ab crunch. Considering how Ultimates articulation can be at times, I was surprised at how well he moves, with good range almost everything. The only restricted area is the waist, and it's partially because of the pouch around the abdomen. Still, you should be able to pull off plenty of nice poses, and the wired cape can be used to spice up how he looks on the shelf.

Cobra Commander comes with plenty of accessories, with some deep-cut extras included as well. He has a rifle and two different pistols to fight with, along with a pair of binoculars for searching for incoming Joes. The high-frequency gun, remote detonator, and Synthoid neutralizer are episode-specific, but I can't recall which ones they come from. He's also got a cobra scepter, and a really cool piece of a cobra wrapped around a globe, which apparently comes from an old video game commercial. All of the accessories sport mostly clean paint, and will look great in the figure's hands. Speaking of which, CC has plenty of hand options, with a pair of gun grip hands, a pair of fists, a pair for holding the rifle, a scepter-holding right, a globe-holding left, and splayed and pointing right hands. The hands swap easily, and along with the toy-inspired head, will give you plenty of ways to display the C.O.B.R.A. leader on the shelf.

Overall, Cobra Commander stands out to me as one of the best Ultimates made, thanks to his solid articulation and plenty of accessories. Granted, better paint would've helped the figure, and I really would've liked to see a hooded head included, but he's still really nice, and if you're a fan of the license, I wouldn't sleep on him.
