Angela (Gargoyles (Neca)) Review
Angela
Gargoyles (Neca) (Neca)Not only has NECA been doing pretty good with the Gargoyles license, but they've upped the frequency of releases. There were just three figures released last year, and only two the year before, but there's been NINE figures out this year, which is definitely a good sign as we're seeing more of the main cast finished up. One of the many recent releases is Goliath and Demona's daughter Angela, who was introduced during season two's long story arc.

They're still killing it with the box art, with this one being done by Djordje Djokovic and Emiliano Santalucia. It depicts Angela in a foggy body of water, accompanied by Bronx, who was with her during that season two arc. I don't know if this is supposed to reference a specific episode, since it's been a minute since I watched the show. Still, it looks great, and it's not hard to get everything out of the box.

As with most of the figures we've seen, Angela is sculpted by Djokovic, and the head looks very nice. She bears a gentler expression than the other gargoyles, with metal earrings and nice texturing on the hair. Borrowing a cue from Demona, Angela has swappable faces rather than heads, with the alternate being the usual blank-eyed roaring face. They swap with ease, and the paint is good with clean work and wash around the eyes. The hair has a few marks here and there, though, and I'm not sure where they came from.

Standing around 7 1/4" tall with an 18" wingspan, Angela shares quite a bit of tooling with her mother Demona. The arms (save for the left bicep), legs, wings, and tail are all recycled, not that that's a bad thing, since the sculpt looks great. She's also a little more modest, with her dress covering more of her upper body, and the texture on it is good. Her bracelet is metal and separate from the arm; it's easily the kind of thing that could've been sculpted onto the arm, but NECA went "nah." The paint on the body is nice and clean, and the shiny blue/black blend for the wings looks great.

Angela follows the same path of articulation as the others, with a barbell head and chest, swivel/hinge wings, shoulders, wrists, tail, ankles, and toes, swivel biceps, waist, and thighs, double-hinged elbows and knees, ball-jointed hips, and a bendy wire inside the tail. While the head has limited range due to the hair, everything else moves great, and plenty of nice poses can be achieved. I was surprised to see hear standing just fine out of the box, but that didn't last long, and you will need a way to support her. The dynamic stand NECA makes will work just fine for this figure, being it merely standing or flying in the air.

There isn't a lot of accessories with Angela, but it's enough for her. As mentioned, she gets an alternate faceplate, along with three pairs of hands - clawing, gripping, and closed - all reused from Demona. Also here is another figure of a much younger Angela. The baby version of her stands just under 2 1/2", and is nicely sculpted and painted, including little rosy cheeks. She's articulated as well, with a barbell head, swivel/hinge wings, shoulders, and tail, ball hips, and a swivel tail. We also get an accessory for an accessory, with an egg that can be opened up to fit the baby inside.

Angela isn't a necessary figure to get by any means, although she quickly became a key character once introduced, and she'll look nice with the rest of your collection. Now that her and the other main players are out, I hope NECA can get to more of the recurring cast, including Owen, Macbeth, and the Pack, and where in the heck is Coldstone?
