Alice (Alice in Wonderland) Disney (Super7) (Super7)As with Pinocchio, the story of Alice in Wonderland existed well before the animated Disney movie, but it's that version that people remember most. They did a great job capturing the strangeness of Wonderland, thanks to great animation and humor, along with memorable characters. It's no surprise Super7 decided to bring some of the characters to the world of Ultimates, including Alice herself. Alice is the only figure in the second wave to get normal-sized packaging, compared to how wide and deep the other figures' boxes are. The slipcover has a blue checkered pattern, and the box underneath has painted graphics based off Wonderland itself. It's all nice and attractive, but we're here to open it up. There's only two ties holding the figure in, and they can be cut out easily. The renders for Alice looked great, but the figure itself… not so much. The shape of the head is fine, but the eyes are more oval-shaped than they should be, and the small pupils make them worse. The skin is also unpainted, and has a glossy, pale appearance. I'm not sure what the hell happened in production that resulted in Alice looking like this, but it's something they could've easily avoided. On the bright side, she has three different portraits: one neutral, one somewhat shocked, and one completely shocked. They fit the character well, it's just that they should look a lot better than they turned out. Alice stands 5 1/2" tall, a fitting size for someone who's meant to be a preteen. The apron, save for the bow in the back, and the lower part of the dress are both cloth, so that the leg articulation won't be hindered. The inner part of the skirt looks great, and there's some wiring in it so it can be posed. Unlike the skin, there are a couple areas that are properly painted, but areas where two colors meet tend to have fuzzy edges. To the naked eye, though, it looks fine, but the skin really should've been painted. Or at least cast in a darker color and given a matte finish. Alice's articulation is mostly the same as other Ultimates, with a few differences. She gets a ball-jointed head, chest, and hips, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles, and swivel waist. The arms move the best with good range, but take care with the wrists due to the small, tight joints. The head gets a little bit more tilt than I thought it would, but the hair still gets in the way, and the chest is more of a swivel than anything. The knees are really wonky with oddly placed joints, and the ankles tilt up and down fine, but the swivels are really tight, and the small pegs don't help. Be careful with the hips, too, as I had one of the joints suddenly snap on me. Good thing I was able to send it back for a replacement. There isn't a lot of accessories, but it fits for the character. Having three head options is nice, and they pop on and off the ball with not too much hassle, but the hair gets in the way a bit. Alice also has interchangeable hands that swap with little issue, with two slightly expressive hands, two gripping, two relaxed, and a right holding the biscuit that caused Alice to grow in size (sadly, "eat me" isn't written on it, despite renders showing otherwise). Going with that hand are the bottle of shrinking liquid, and a slug figure of a mini Alice holding the biscuit. The little Alice surprisingly looks much better than the bigger one. Two other slug figures are included: the glasses bird and Alice's pet cat Dinah. The bird looks great and fit on Alice's shoulders with no issue, while Dinah is a unarticulated hunk of plastic with a miscolored face. I wish Alice had a few more extras to justify the price, like a book and/or one of the croquet birds. Alice is an okay figure, but Super7 really dropped the ball with her. The off-model eyes, glossy skin, wonky leg articulation, and small accessory count don't make her feel "ultimate," but if you're a fan of the license and can find this figure for a good price (Amazon has her for $35), I see no issue with adding her to your collection. - 9/24/23 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
