Junkyard Toxic Crusaders (Super7) (Super7)After reviewing the other two figures in Super7's first wave of Toxic Crusader Ultimates that wasn't just Toxie, it's time to let the dog out. Like the others, Junkyard's toy design differed from the cartoon he originated from, but not as much as say, Radiation Ranger. The toy looked more menacing than the softer show design, with visible gums and a lot of jagged sharp teeth. His fur is also a dark brown, rather than a light tan. Super7's update of the original keeps the same design, but gives him a different expression. The Playmates figure had an action feature in which the mouth could be opened and his tongue would flip on out, but S7 opted for a closed mouth sculpt. That said, their's gets an extra head more directly based off the original, with a long tongue made of a softer material. Both heads get some decent paint with plenty of wash on the fur, but there is a bit of slop and bleed around the eyes and teeth. Standing about 6 3/4" tall, toy Junkyard wears the same shirt and overalls cartoon Junkyard had, just a little more torn up. His chest is more exposed, the spikes jutting from his back have ripped open the shirt a bit, and his right pant leg has a big tear in it. Super7 did a good job not just recreating that look, but updating it as well thanks to more paint. His shirt actually has sleeves now! The fur texture is great, and his tail, rather than the big, bushy one from the show, is thin and deteriorated to the point of showing bone. The colors are nice and bold, with mostly clean work all around, and there's a couple splashes of ooze on the arms and feet. The waist looks very odd, but the reason it's designed that way is so the belt can be worn. The belt looks good and clips together in the back with little hassle, but I wish it was painted rather than being solid orange, a problem the other accessories have. The collar is also a separate piece, and you can pop the head off easily to remove it. Junkyard has all the articulation you could ask for, at least all you can ask for out of an Ultimate. He has a barbell head, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles, and tail, and swivel biceps, waist, thighs, and shins. While the thighs are a bit tight, everything else moves great, and the joints get pretty good range. The head has plenty of tilt on the ball, but removing the collar will increase its range. The elbows can't be fully straight, but that's due to the design of the arms. There's a a lot of tilt and rocker motion in the ankles, and the shin swivels help. A good amount of accessories is included, and almost everything is lifted from the original figure. Junkyard gets the more toy-accurate head, along with three sets of hands - gripping, clawing, and closed - and everything swaps easily. His arsenal includes his Anti-Garbage Gun, a firearm cobbled together from various parts including a dog food can, a Dog Bone Brainer, a spiked bone that can be a little painful to hold, a Slogan Stick, reading "Take a bite out of grime!", and a spiked newspaper, a rolled-up newspaper with a nail in it. The accessories have great sculpts, but are very lacking in paint. The only paint are the banner on the Slogan Stick, and the "Toxic Times" title on the newspaper, and I wish there was more colors than everything being solid green. Well, almost everything; the newspaper is cast in glow in the dark plastic, and it glows great. Junkyard is a very fun figure with bold colors, great articulation, and plenty of accessories, and while I do like the Radiation Ranger more, Junkyard is still just as enjoyable. I'm surprised Super7 hasn't put up the next wave for pre-order yet, given how well these ones are doing, but hopefully we'll see something soon. - 10/5/23 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
