Notorious B.I.G. (Brooklyn Jersey) Notorious B.I.G. (Super7) (Super7)He's gone by many names, but the alias Christopher Wallace is most known for is The Notorious B.I.G. Despite dying young in his early 20s, weeks before his second album, he remains one of the most influential hip-hop rappers there was. The man continues to be immortalized through merch long after his death, the latest being Super7's "Ultimate" figure. Does it do him justice? May as well find out. Coming in the usual trapezoidal Ultimates packaging, Biggie comes in a golden foil box with a brief description of him on the back, and the slip cover is primarily black with a head silhouette on the front. It's simple, but it fits him quite well, and it's not too hard to get everything out; just some tape and two plastic ties to remove to get the figure and some of the extras out. Super7 figures of real-life people released before this have suffered various issues, ranging from flat, cartoony paint (Power Rangers and Space Odyssey) to completely off faces (André the Giant). Neither of those issues are present with Biggie, with a spot-on likeness and a full coat of paint with clean edges. As with most Ultimates, Biggie gets three head options: one neutral, one slightly ticked off, and one a bit more ticked, with an open mouth. All three heads look great, thanks to the work of Brandon Gash, and you'll likely be going back to him time and again to change out the portrait. Standing 7" tall, Biggie is dressed in an outfit befitting a hip-hop rap legend such as himself. He dons primarily black clothing, with the only prominent splashes of color being a golden Jesus chain and mustard yellow high-tops. The sculpt on the clothing is great, with some subtle texturing to the baggy pants, and the Jesus chain can be removed as well. The paint is good as well, with clean work on the buttons and shoelaces, and very little slop. The figure is painted all over it seems, albeit with a bit of the usual Super7 shine. Despite his heft, Biggie has a lot of mobility to him, with a bit more articulation than usual for Ultimates.. The head moves on a double-ball-peg, but there isn't a ton of tilt to it, mainly due to the head shape. Swivel/hinge joints in the shoulders, elbows, and wrists can achieve plenty of arm movement, and are tight enough to hold a pose. The chest and waist are both ball pegs that can tilt and turn, but admittedly not as well as I hoped. The legs get ball hips, swivel/hinge knees and ankles, and swivel thighs and lower shins. The knees have limited bend, but everything else moves just fine. The joints are good overall, but you'll want to heat up anything that feels too tight. A decent selection of accessories is included with Biggie, opening the door to various display options. As mentioned above, he has three different heads, which swap with no issues. Four pairs of hands are included as well - gripping, tight grip, closed, and wide open - but you'll want to heat up the forearms when swapping due to how tight the sockets are. He gets both a fedora and a newsboy cap to wear, and they have a good fit on the heads. There's also some cool shades for him to wear, further adding some coolness to him. Rounding things out are a cane, a microphone, and a champagne glass. They're ideal extras for him, but the hand designed for the glass can't hold it tight enough. The Notorious B.I.G. surprisingly proves to be one of the best Ultimates out there, thanks to above-average sculpting and paint for something by Super7, and both the articulation and accessories are plentiful enough to allow a ton of ways to display him. As much as I like Super7, I will admit most of the figures aren't superb quality, let alone worth the unusually high prices, but when they nail it, they nail it. - 1/21/24 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
